Michigan State Representative Laurie Pohutsky (D-Livonia) has revealed that she underwent voluntary sterilization, citing concerns over access to reproductive health care in the United States under President Donald Trump’s policies.
“Just under two weeks ago, I underwent surgery to ensure that I would never have to navigate a pregnancy in Donald Trump’s America,” Pohutsky stated.
“I refuse to let my body be treated as currency by an administration that only sees value in my ability to procreate,” she added.
Pohutsky articulated her decision in the most dramatic terms possible. “If you know people who are questioning how serious this is, I’m going to repeat myself: A sitting government official opted for voluntary sterilization because she was uncertain she would be able to access contraception in the future.”

Widely considered a rising star in the Michigan Democratic Party, Pohutsky announced her candidacy for House minority leader following the 2024 elections, in which Republicans regained control of the Michigan House of Representatives.
She joins Representative Jason Morgan (D-Ann Arbor) in the race, as both lawmakers have declared their intentions to seek the leadership role.
Throughout her tenure in Lansing, Pohutsky has held significant leadership positions, including serving as speaker pro tempore and chairing the Natural Resources, Environmental, Tourism and Outdoor Recreation Committee.
She currently lives in Livonia with her rescue pets.
Michigan Advance has additional details on Pohutsky’s appearance, which occurred before hundreds of protesters gathered on the lawn of the Michigan State Capitol on Wednesday. The event was part of the left’s “50501 Movement,” aimed at holding 50 protests in 50 states on the same day:
The protest was one of the largest showings from Democrats since Trump regained control of the White House on Jan. 20. The People’s March, a progressive protest held at the Michigan Capitol before Trump’s inauguration, did not draw any Democratic state or federal officials.
Pohutsky said government officials need to similarly begin doing more to counter Trump.
“We need to demand that our elected officials at all levels stop pretending that this is politics as usual,” Pohutsky said. “It is beyond time that all elected officials force the issue instead of preemptively capitulating.”

Wade and eliminated federal protections for abortion, there has been a documented increase in voluntary sterilization procedures. A 2024 study found that in states where abortion bans were enacted, surgical sterilizations among women increased by 3% per month.
Additional research from George Washington University indicated a surge in permanent contraception procedures among young adults aged 19 to 26. Between May and August 2022, vasectomy rates increased by 95%, while tubal sterilizations rose by 70%, particularly in states likely to restrict abortion access.

At the time, there was “research” that indicated using the pill , as my wife was, could cause cancer. 2 kids and a step kid was, we thought, enough.. Turned out well, if I say so, and I never regretted the surgery. Well, except when my ex-MIL turned out to be the assisting nurse. But that is another story…I have two grandkids from with m6 daughter and step-son. Other son thought kids were a bother, so none there. No regrets of any kind, as I said, to each their own.

Funny now the party of “freedom” and “small government” seeks to control so many aspects of our lives. It is also interesting that the “states’ rights” party seeks nationwide overrides of state laws on several fronts.
As foolish as her decision is, she has a right to do that. If she wants to have sexual relations while avoiding the natural consequences of pregnancy by being sterilized beforehand, then she can do with her body as she pleases. After all, that is the constant rallying cry of the feminists these days. Or she could become celibate. But no, the feminists want to have their sexual pleasures and then murder another human being via abortion to pay for it. That is an evil mindset. These women should not be having children if they are willing to go that far to sterilize themselves to get even with others with whom they disagree. She should be immediately disqualified from hold public office for being mentally and emotionally unfit and enrolled in a program to help her through her personal crisis.
