But prosecutors will be appealing immediately…
A Nevada judge dismissed the case against six individuals who were accused of being “fake electors” in the 2020 presidential election.
The six individuals identified as “fake electors” are:
- Michael McDonald: Chairman of the Nevada Republican Party.
- James DeGraffenreid: National Committeeman for the Nevada Republican Party.
- Jesse Law: A Republican Party activist.
- Shawn Meehan: A Republican elector.
- Eileen Rice: A Republican elector.
- Stuart Yob: A Republican elector.
The six erroneously claimed that former President Donald Trump won Nevada.
The case was centered around the actions of these six individuals who signed documents asserting that they were Nevada's rightful electors for Trump. These documents were part of an effort to challenge the official election results and were submitted to Congress and the National Archives.
The Hill has more:
Clark County District Court Judge Mary Kay Holthus ruled that prosecutors with the Nevada attorney general's office chose the wrong venue in which to file the case, calling off a trial scheduled for January.
“We disagree with the judge's decision and will be appealing immediately,” said John Sadler, a spokesperson for the Nevada attorney general's office.
The pro-Trump electors who were charged were Michael McDonald, Jesse Law, Jim DeGraffenreid, Durward James Hindle III, Shawn Meehan and Eileen Rice. They each faced felony charges of offering a false instrument for filing and uttering a forged document, which carry penalties up to four or five years in prison.
When announcing their indictments, the state attorney general's office said in a statement they posed as “duly qualified” electors to “disrupt the results of a free and fair presidential election.”
The “fake electors” scheme after the 2020 election involved individuals falsely claiming to be the rightful electors for Donald Trump, even though official results showed Joe Biden as the winner.
Similar actions were taken in multiple states where Biden had won, including Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.
