Authorities have detained a suspect – an adult male – after they allegedly threw an improvised explosive device (IED) at the Santa Barbara Superior Courts complex in Santa Maria, California.
According to preliminary reporters, the attack resulted in two non-life-threatening injuries.
First responders found additional explosives and weapons in the suspect’s vehicle parked next to the courthouse.
Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office believes the explosion was caused by a deliberately set improvised explosive device (IED), according to public information officer Raquel Zick.
Authorities are urging the public to avoid the area as it remains unsafe.
The Santa Maria City Hall, including the Finance Department, City Attorney’s Office, Santa Maria Public Library and Recreation and Parks Department are closed for the rest of the day.
