Litany of Criminal Charges Unveiled Against Steve Bannon

-

Prominent ally , who was pardoned by the former president eight hours before he left office, has surrendered to the Manhattan district attorney's office in .

Bannon is expected to face charges later in the day.

The indictment against Bannon, unsealed this morning, includes two felony counts of money laundering, two counts of conspiracy and another felony count of defrauding donors who gave money to his nonprofit. (RELATED: Bannon Expected to Surrender to Law Enforcement Thursday)

If found guilty, Bannon faces up to 15 years in prison.

Per The New York Times:

Mr. Bannon, 68, walked into the Manhattan district attorney's office on Hogan Street at about 9:10 a.m. surrounded by press and heckled by a handful of protesters. Mr. Bannon arrived in a black S.U.V., wearing a black jacket, smiling and defiant. He then raised his left hand and pointed to the scores of reporters and photographers gathered there.

“This is an irony,” he said, adding. “On the very day the mayor of this city has a delegation down on the border, they're persecuting people here for trying to stop them at the border.” Mayor Eric Adams has sent officials to Texas to investigate a torrent of migrants bused to by the state's governor.

The charges echo a federal case brought against Mr. Bannon two years ago. Federal prosecutors in 2020 indicted him and three other men of taking donations from the crowd-funded border wall project to pay for personal expenses.

In a statement this week, Mr. Bannon called the state charges “phony,” adding: “This is nothing more than a partisan political weaponization of the criminal justice system.”
