-

Shannon Brandt, the North Dakota man accused of mowing down a teenage boy who he claimed was a “Republican extremist” has been charged with murder in the death of Cayler Ellingson.

Brandt, 41 was arrested after police say that he fatally hit Ellingson with his SUV the morning of September 18th after a street dance that took place at a local bar in McHenry, .

Brandt initially fled the scene and told a 911 operator that Ellingson was part of a “Republican extremist group,” adding that the teenager was calling on others to come “get him,' according to court documents obtained by Fox News.

North Dakota Highway Patrol Capt. Bryan Niewind says that there is “no evidence” suggesting that the teenager was part of a “Republican extremist group” or that the incident involved .

Foster County State's Attorney Kara Brinster announced Friday that Brandt is being charged with murder in addition to duty in an accident involving death. Brinster said that the charge of criminal vehicular homicide has been dismissed because of the new murder charge.

A probable cause affidavit for the new charges states that the North Dakota man asked the 911 operator if he was going to prison and made comments regarding the incident being intentional.

According to the affidavit, when the 911 operator asked “he wouldn't let your vehicle go then what happened,” and Brandt responded “yes I…I just tried to take of en , he..he wasn't going to let me go, I I hit him I didn't mean to and and he's subdued I was scared to death but he's subdued, he can't do anything to me now so, so this is why I'm calling you.”

“I mean I…I almost oh god, I almost just runaway but I thought jeez obviously if it was a total accident I wouldn't be scared but I know it was more than that,” Brandt said, according to the affidavit.

An autopsy performed on Ellingson indicated that his injuries were caused by being “ran over” by the SUV, and not by being struck by the front of the car.

As previously reported by American Liberty News, Brandt was released from Stutsman County Jail on a $50,000 bond stemming from criminal charges related to the death of 18-year-old Cayler Ellingson. (RELATED: North Dakota Man Released After Killing Teenage ‘Republican Extremist')

  1. “there is “no evidence” suggesting that the teenager was part of a “Republican extremist group”” To a liberal, if you disagree with them, you are part of a Republican extremist group.

  2. He needs some serious sentencing. We’re getting tired of these criminals going to jail, being supported by honest taxpayers then released to do it again.

  3. He should have never been let out of jail. Everybody knew he had done this on purpose. He should never be allowed to see the daylight again, except from the inside of a fence in prison.

  4. this cries out for biblical justice–let the kid’s mom drive over the guy a few times with his own truck. git ‘er done.
