Active Shooter Reported At Joint Base Andrews

UPDATE:

No shots have been fired as of 4:20 p.m. EST Thursday at after a gunman was sighted near base housing. and base security are actively searching for the perpetrator. Officials have advised anyone who sees people outside to call 911 immediately.

The base remains in lockdown. People have been told to shelter in place.

ORIGINAL ARTICLE:

Maryland's Joint Base Andrews went into lockdown this afternoon amid reports of an active shooter on base.

A Facebook post from the base's official account describes the shooter as “a white male, wearing a purple sweatshirt, black shorts” and carrying an AR-15-style rifle.

The gunman was reported in the vicinity of base housing. Lockdown procedures were initiated immediately.

A search has begun for the shooter.

  1. With no shots fired why are they claiming an active shooter??? The ONLY reason I can see is fear mongering.

  2. No shots = no shooter.

    Someone probably initiated an alert because they sighted a gun owner who was legally transporting his firearm(s) … and if we start OVER-REACTING then we will start seeing lawful gun owners SHOT for merely transporting UNLOADED firearms…
