PAUL’S DAILY BRIEF () Monday – Want peace in the Pacific? Bring Taiwan into the UN system. The United Nations can start by rejecting Beijing’s false claims about Resolution 2758 that addresses only China’s representation in the U.N.

This is one of the key elements in a campaign to establish the legal basis for justifying a future armed invasion of Taiwan.

Large parts of the world — and billions of people — have enjoyed great prosperity thanks to the peace and stability that prevail across the 97-mile strait separating China from Taiwan.

Taiwan is an indispensable partner in global supply chains, producing more than 90 percent of the world’s high-end semiconductors, including many of the advanced chips that are driving the AI revolution. And half of the world’s seaborne trade passes through the Taiwan Strait.

All this is threatened by Beijing’s attempts to change the status quo across the strait and to expand authoritarianism throughout the Indo-Pacific region.

In recent years, global leaders have used bilateral and multilateral meetings to highlight the importance of maintaining peace and stability across the strait. Now is the time for the largest international organization of all, the United Nations, to rethink unjustified policies that exclude Taiwan.

FOR YOUR EYES ONLY – Here’s a roundup of today’s other top defense stories from conservative national security expert PAUL CRESPO.

Not the President’s Daily Brief, but almost as good – PAUL’S DAILY BRIEFING – the PDB:

NATIONAL SECURITY

We face unprecedented peril. The Pentagon and Congress must change their ways. Despite the boasts of both presidential candidates as well as congressional Republicans and Democrats that they will ensure American military superiority, the Defense Department begins the 14th fiscal year of the past 15 without an appropriated budget.

US fighters intercept 4 Russian military intelligence aircraft near Alaska, Japan says Chinese and Russian military aircraft violated its territory too. The Russian planes were tracked operating in the Alaska air defense identification zone (ADIZ) on Monday.

The US military is taking the fight to military risks from climate change. In 2012, the Pentagon issued a first-of-its-kind “Climate Change Adaptation Roadmap” to prepare the U.S. military for increasing threats to national security in the form of rising sea levels, increasing global temperatures, and growing conflicts over basic resources like food and water.

POLITICS

BUT WHY? Trump praises Russia’s military record in argument to stop funding Ukraine’s fight. This, as he again insisted he would quickly end the war launched by Moscow.

House Republicans advance contempt charges against Secretary of State Antony Blinken over Afghanistan testimony. This, following a contentious back-and-forth over an appearance to testify on the chaotic U.S. retreat.

UNREAL! – AND WE EXPECT TO WIN WARS?! New Air Force PT gear rollout delayed again. The long-awaited rollout of the new Air Force physical training uniform, already two years behind schedule, has been delayed again.

Food insecurity among military families unacceptable, advocates say. Many troops who should be focused on national security at work are still struggling with food insecurity at home.

US POWER OVERSEAS

Former destroyer captain pitches faster, cheaper solution for defending Guam. The Pentagon should rethink its plans for the island’s missile defense and consider less expensive technology with a lighter footprint.

UAE SHOULD STOP COZYING UP TO CHINA FIRST. UAE designation as US Major Defense Partner to tighten security ties, could aid F-35 deal. The United Arab Emirates is now officially America’s second-ever non-NATO Major Defense Partner. This should draw the two friendly nations even closer on military matters and may boost the UAE’s beleaguered effort to join the international F-35 program.

WATCH – US forces remain in Middle East as war looms between Hezbollah and Israel.

ISRAEL WAR AGAINST TERROR

World leaders at UN sound alarm as Israel pummels Hezbollah for second day. They urged Israel and Hezbollah to step back from the brink of all-out war.

The vast Hezbollah arsenal awaiting Israel in Lebanon. If full-scale war comes to Lebanon, Israel will be fighting on Hezbollah’s turf, where its advantages in technology and intelligence won’t be as decisive.

CHINA THREAT

CRITICAL! US seeks to ban Chinese software from cars, citing national security concerns.

Chinese investment in ports, communication seeks to project global power. While the U.S. is unrivaled in projecting military power from 500-plus overseas bases, China’s investments in ports and communication technology globally show Beijing’s footprint approach as a possible means to a similar end.

RUSSIA THREAT – UKRAINE WAR

US to send $375 million in military aid to Ukraine, including medium-range cluster bombs and an array of rockets, artillery and armored vehicles.

Debate over Ukraine weapons restrictions divides allies, administration. Biden-Harris’ lingering fearful refusal to relax restrictions on Ukraine’s use of Western missiles for deeper strikes on Russian territory has exacerbated a growing divide between the allies.

Video shows Ukraine’s new drone-dropped robot dog in action. Its growing fleet of robotic dogs are capable of delivering ammunition, conducting surveillance, and providing support to front-line forces.

NORTH KOREA

North Korea vows response to US nuke-powered submarine’s visit to South Korea. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un’s powerful sister vowed Tuesday to boost the country’s nuclear war capability and take other steps in protest.

SPACE THREAT

Military’s weather satellite program in flux as Space Force evaluates options. The service is proceeding cautiously with its plans to replace aging weather satellites, signaling that any plans to acquire next-generation systems are still far off.

INTERNATIONAL SECURITY

Russia signs satellite deal with three West African military juntas. Russia will deploy telecommunications and remote-sensing satellites over three military-led West African countries that had already cut ties with U.S. and European allies and turned toward Moscow to help contain Islamist insurgents.

European navies chase the white whale of torpedo-busting torpedoes. The technology promises to be a game changer: a torpedo-seeking torpedo fired by surface vessels for head-on intercepts, missile-defense style.

US MILITARY

Ingalls wins $9.6B in Navy shipbuilding contracts for 4 amphibious warships.

WATCH – Marines simulate search and seizure ops aboard an amphibious dock landing ship.

Navy’s ‘digital quarterback’ aircraft plagued by untracked deficiencies; DOD IG finds. Its battle manager in the sky has been crippled by scores of deficiencies and no plan to fix them, casting doubt on whether the service can accomplish critical missions at sea.

Air Force looking to disaggregate electronic warfare capabilities from platforms. It is moving away from a platform-centric view of electronic warfare to more of a system-of-systems approach as it revamps its EW arsenal.

USAF needs to stop talking, start moving on next-gen training tech. Artificial intelligence can better prepare the Air Force for a potential high-end fight against the likes of China and Russia.

How a US armor brigade is applying lessons from Ukraine pushing to adapt – with the tech they already have on hand.

Army looking to streamline and speed up helicopter refuel and resupply. Its current method worked well in past wars, but it won’t keep pace with the faster-paced, move-or-be-killed wars of the future.

Let’s talk about the US Marines reopening WW2 airfields to prepare for future scenarios. The former Army Air Corps airfield at Camp Davis will now serve as a multipurpose outlying landing field (OLF) about 25 miles from Camp Lejeune, NC.

COOL IDEA – Bill would automatically give separating troops ‘competency records’ for civilian jobs. They would get a form with past qualifications and training that they can show to employers.
