Trump Will Make US Military World’s ‘Most Modern, Lethal And Powerful’

MONDAY PDB – The US needs to rebuild its military might. Trump and the Republican Party promise to do just that.

The world has become consumed by chaos. Dictators in Russia, China, Iran and North Korea are working together to undermine the free world. There's little doubt why they feel emboldened: Under the Biden administration, U.S. military readiness has significantly diminished and authoritarians sense weakness.

America urgently needs to embrace the philosophy of peace through strength that has guided Republican presidents from Ronald Reagan to Donald Trump and kept our nation safe. 

Thankfully at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee next week, Trump will present the Republican Party's plan to do exactly that should he be re-elected in November.

The party's recently released platform calls for making America's military the force in the world. That isn't a new playbook. The GOP has a long tradition of championing robust investments in America's vital defense needs.

The Democrats, meantime, have targeted the nation's defense budget since at least Jimmy Carter's presidency at the expense of our military readiness and national security.

TRUMP ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT

HE IS A WARRIOR! – Trump injured but ‘fine' after attempted assassination at rally, shooter and one attendee are dead. Former President Donald Trump was the target of an apparent assassination attempt Saturday in Pennsylvania, days before he was to accept the Republican nomination for a third time.

A barrage of gunfire set off slight panic, and a bloodied Trump, who was shot in the ear, was surrounded by Secret Service and hurried to his SUV as he pumped his fist in a show of defiance.

NATIONAL SECURITY

Overuse of National Guard threatens to undermine preparedness. The Guard is being used for an increasing number of missions outside of its core functions. We need to recalibrate its use.

Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin talks with Russian defense minister for second time in a month.

BIDEN SHOULD BE PREPARING US FOR WAR WITH CHINA NOT OBSESSING OVER TALKS – US and Chinese senior military leaders are talking again, says Biden. This, following a rough patch last year when a Chinese spy balloon overflew the United States.

HOMELAND SECURITY

Dozens of federal agencies' call data potentially exposed in AT&T breach. AT&T is a prime contractor on the government's $50 billion telecom contract vehicle and supplies infrastructure and bandwidth for the FirstNet public safety communications program.

POLITICIZED BY DEMS AND BIDEN – Botched Army security briefing labeled anti-abortion, animal activist groups as potential terrorists. The Army personnel in charge of security at the gates of Fort Liberty, North Carolina, received the outrageous anti-terrorism briefing Wednesday, instead of a typically mundane rundown of how to identify potential threats.

OR STOP ALIENATING SOUTHERN WHITE CHRISTIAN MEN – THAT WILL IMPROVE RECRUITING, TOO – Navajo Marine says religious waiver will help recruit more personnel. A Native American Marine reservist who recently received a religious waiver to grow his hair out believes the approval will lead to more Indigenous service members serving.

POLITICS

What happens if the president issues a potentially illegal order to the military? A group of military officers – the most senior leaders of every branch of the armed forces – recently discussed that.

IS IT THE VA'S CALL TO MAKE? – House Republicans and VA at a standoff over veterans who lost gun rights because they needed help managing their benefits. This, over whether the agency should continue to ban veterans from owning guns when they are appointed fiduciaries to manage their benefits.

 US POWER OVERSEAS

Marine Corps imposes sobriety checks at its Japan bases, more changes coming. The 100% sobriety checks began Friday and Saturday evening at its bases in Japan following complaints from Japanese leaders about recent charges against U.S. service members for alleged sexual offenses, often while drunk.

CHINA THREAT

Taiwan steps up alertness after detecting test-firing by China's missile unit. It is monitoring “waves of test-firing” by China's missile unit in a region more than 1,000 miles from the self-ruled island.

China, Russia start joint naval drills, days after NATO allies called Beijing a “decisive enabler” of Russia's war in Ukraine. This, on Sunday at a military port in southern China on Sunday.

China's newest military base abroad is up and running, and there are more on the horizon. With the months-long presence of Chinese warships at Cambodia's Ream naval base and a major bilateral military exercise there in May, years of suspicions and denials about China's presence in the Southeast Asian country, have been confirmed.

RUSSIA THREAT – UKRAINE WAR

Treason and espionage cases are rising in Russia since the war in Ukraine began. Previously rare, now since the 2022 invasion of Ukraine, they have skyrocketed, along with espionage prosecutions.

Ukraine is targeting Crimea, a critical base for Russia's invasion. Newly armed with deep-strike missiles, Kyiv is trying to degrade Russian abilities on the peninsula, aiming at airfields, air defenses and logistics hubs.

ISRAEL'S WAR AGAINST TERROR

Hamas claims military chief survived Israeli strike. It also said that Gaza cease-fire talks continue. This, a day after the Israeli military targeted Mohammed Deif with a massive airstrike that Hamas health officials said killed 90 people. Israel believes Deif is dead.

Israel's military, worn down by Gaza, looks warily toward war in Lebanon. As the two trade threats, there are fears that Israel's military is overstretched, and its resources depleted after nine months of war against Hamas.

NORTH KOREA THREAT

North Korea threatens to boost nuke capability in reaction to US-South Korea deterrence guidelines. It also pledged to make the U.S. and South Korea pay “an unimaginably harsh price” as it slammed its rivals' new defense guidelines that it says reveal an intention to invade the North.

SPACE THREAT

US Space Force chief names former UK space chief ‘Assistant CSO' to promote allied partnership. Air Marshall Paul Godfrey will be the first U.S. “Assistant Chief of Space Operations for Future Concepts and Partnerships,” a move designed to help advance combined operations with allies.

The Pentagon needs a strategy for cislunar (or ‘deep') space.

INTERNATIONAL SECURITY

Japanese defense white paper warns Pacific at greatest risk since WWII. It warned of a situation similar to Russia's aggression toward Ukraine occurring in the Indo-Pacific. It also singled out China, North Korea and Russia as threats to Japan and the region.

NATO chooses Jordan to house first-ever liaison office in the Middle East and North Africa. This, amid conflicts roaring in the region from the Red Sea to Gaza and Lebanon.

US MILITARY

Army double-timing exit of obsolete weapons and equipment. One of the largest military bases in the U.S. is conducting a massive housecleaning of redundant and outdated military gear and hardware.
