Rep. Seth Moulton (D-Mass.) recently voiced his concerns in an op-ed, highlighting an unsettling moment with President Joe Biden, whom he has known for over a decade as a “mentor and friend.” Moulton claims that Biden failed to recognize him in an intimate setting, raising more questions about the president’s cognitive health and ability to lead.

Rising Concerns Among Democrats

Moulton joins a growing chorus of Democratic lawmakers urging Biden to reconsider his reelection plans. Concerns about Biden’s age and stamina are central to their arguments. Despite these rising apprehensions, Biden and his inner circle publicly maintain that he is committed to running in the upcoming election.

A Personal Reflection

In his Boston Globe op-ed, Moulton reminisced about his close relationship with Biden. He recalls Biden’s support during his primary battle in 2014, portraying a strong bond forged over years of political camaraderie.

More recently, I saw him in a small group at Normandy for the 80th anniversary of D-Day. For the first time, he didn’t seem to recognize me. Of course, that can happen as anyone ages, but as I watched the disastrous debate a few weeks ago, I have to admit that what I saw in Normandy was part of a deeper problem.

Mentorship and Changing Dynamics

Moulton’s piece praised Biden’s mentorship, highlighting how the president has guided him through the complexities of congressional operations during their numerous meetings and phone conversations. However, he expressed deep concern about Biden’s current state, contrasting the vigorous leader he once knew with the man he encountered this year.

Achievements and Future Challenges

While Moulton acknowledges Biden’s significant achievements and past mastery of the legislative process, he remains skeptical about Biden’s ability to secure victory against Donald Trump in the forthcoming election. His doubts are compounded by recent polling, which suggests that, if patterns hold, Trump could win over 320 electoral votes on November 5.
