Is Kari Lake preparing for a comeback?
After narrowly losing the Arizona gubernatorial election and coming up empty-handed in a long-shot legal bid to overturn the results, the MAGA favorite reportedly met with members of the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC).
Some Republicans aren't happy. Lake came up short by 17,117 votes after falsely claiming that former President Donald Trump lost the 2020 presidential election. They argue that Lake's obstinance on that point cost her the election.
The Daily Caller continues:
“Any candidate in '24 that has, as their principal campaign theme, a stolen election, is probably going to have the same issues that some of the '22 candidates had,” Republican South Dakota Sen. John Thune told Politico.
“I just don't think that's where the American public is. It's a swing state — we need to have a good Republican nominee, obviously. You know, whoever gets in, I hope they focus on the future, not the past,” he said.
Democratic Arizona Rep. Ruben Gallego announced Jan. 23 that he would run for Senate, setting up a general election showdown with Independent Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, who recently defected from the Democratic Party. Sinema and Gallego could conceivably split the liberal vote, opening the path for a Republican to win.
An analysis of Maricopa County voters confirmed tens of thousands of Republican-leaning voters abstained from supporting certain Republican candidates or voted Democrat if they found that candidate more palatable.
Gov. Katie Hobbs (D) won 64% of independents and 11% of Republicans.
Fox News exit polls showed Lake lost by failing to garner sufficient support from college-educated, white suburbanites.
