Ron Johnson Down Big in Latest Poll

-

Incumbent Republican Sen. (R-Wis.) appears to be in the fight of his political life.

Closer-than-expected results in special elections in Nebraska and Minnesota suggest the 's decision overturning Roe v. Wade has motivated Democrats and left Republicans caught flat-footed. Meanwhile, a new poll from Marquette University shows the GOP may be in trouble in Wisconsin.

The Hill reports:

Wisconsin Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes (D) leads incumbent Sen. Ron Johnson (R) by 7 percentage points in their race for Johnson's seat, according to a poll from Marquette University Law School released Wednesday.

The survey found that Barnes received support from 51 percent of respondents, compared to Johnson's 44 percent. Barnes expanded his lead from Marquette's June poll, in which he led Johnson by only 2 points, within the margin of error.

Barnes was still competing for the Democratic nomination at the time of the June poll but clinched the primary earlier this month.

The poll released Wednesday shows a sharp partisan divide between the candidates, with 95 percent of Democrats supporting Barnes and 92 percent of Republicans supporting Johnson. But Barnes leads among independents, 52 percent to 38 percent.

Barnes' advantage with independents is up 14 points since June when he and Johnson were tied with unaffiliated voters.

Along with , Wisconsin is considered a prime pickup opportunity for Democrats. The Badger State is a perennial battleground and poll after poll shows Johnson is unpopular with his own constituents.

  1. Wisconsin has never been reliable except for liberals. Another place where a couple of blue cities run the state. Another place where the fix might be in already too. I’m sure all the usual players have sent money and man power to Wisconsin to affect the outcome of the election.
Republicans made their bed with abortion and now they are going to have to trust that most of the American people do not believe birth control means killing babies. This Barnes guy might make that his campaign slogan and if you poll in the right places, he might do well, but in the end (if they don’t cheat again) I think common sense will prevail and losing America to communism over a woman’s right to kill her baby would by a crime against humanity and the world.

    • Republicans made their bed with abortion“? Really? “Republicans” did nothing for this. It was the Supreme Court and they are right that the Constitution has nothing about this and to give power to the states as the Constitution states. If you want it a federal thing, create law as you’ve had the opportunity to do under Obama and Biden when you’ve controlled the entire Federal government. But they chose not to.

  2. Senator Johnson has served his people and all of us with dignity and honor! He’s been bold on issues of truth and govt overreach. The vax issues and other things! Wish I lived in WITH so I could vote for him!!

  3. That state is a joke.. This state has become like Michigan. Full of stupid liberals looking for a handout. Letting criminals roam free. Parents no way in sight to raise their children. Schools betraying the constitution and laws. Stupidity in America is disgusting.

  4. Trouble is that Republicans can not get excited about Johnson who is not solid Republican. To many times he votes with the Democrats

    • Name a single important issue on which he has “voted with the Democrats.” Contrary to your allegation, Sen. Johnson has voted very “reliably” with the Republican caucus, according to Ballotpedia.

    • That is s fkng lie and I will find you!! You have never seen his voting records, I have!
When you lie or cheat I yell. Liberal !!!

  5. There are seven weeks to go! Don’t write anyone’s political obituary quite yet! DO get out and vote against these baby-killing Marxists!

    • If the democrats keep control of both houses of congress this country is in bigger trouble than we already are. They are hell bent on killing our republic and replacing it with their version of a socialist government, with them in control.

  6. As far as I am concerned a vote for a Democrat is a vote for communism and tyranny. They have the most corrupt anti-American agenda you could imagine. They might as well admit that they are selling our nation out to the Chinese. Biden being the biggest sell out. It’s called treason.

  7. I could care less. If he’s an incumbent, he’s most probably a crook anyway. How long has he been there? Does anyone here even know?

    • And you are “most probably” a libeler. You have no basis whatsoever for accusing him of being a “crook,” which he most assuredly is not. To answer your questions, he has been in the Senate for two terms. Without Sen. Johnson’s work and that of Devin Nunes, Hillary Clinton would have gotten away with her scheme to fund the fake dossier, lies to the FISA Court, and illegal spying on the Trump Campaign and Trump White House.

  8. Senator Johnson has been working for the American people, where his opponent is a liberal, radical, socialist, marxist, for open borders, and every other idiotic policies, that don’t work for the american people. Don’t fall for this commie dumbocrap over a real working senator for the people.

  9. It will be unfortunate if Johnson loses. I don’t know anything about Wisconsin except they are called Cheeseheads. I know Minnesota has always been full of Socialists, but hoped adjoining states might avoid affliction with the disease. .

  10. There are truckloads of money coming in from the east and west coast to Johnson’s opponent’s campaign coffers. The Dems are scared to death of Johnson because he is honest.

  11. Johnson seems to be one of the good guys. If he loses the election it would be a huge loss for the state and country.

  12. The poll cited here is by Marquette, which is a leftist polling organization. It was spectacularly wrong in 2016. I give it zero credence.

As Steven Turley recently pointed out in one of his “liberal hive mind” pieces, the typical pattern is for these fake left-wing polls like YouGov and Morning Consult to come out with data supposedly showing Republicans in trouble a few months before each election as a means of depressing Republican turnout. Their results are consistently proven on election day to be so bad that no one should accord them any deference whatsoever.

When Rasmussen or Trafalgar comes out with a poll showing Sen. Johnson in trouble, get back to me.

  13. If Mandela Barnes beats Johnson in WI. Then we got more Communist voters than what I want to live by!! If they can’t see beyond where he wants to take us, then they have not been witnessing the crime in Liberal cities. Which we will have. He s also against Ice and wants open borders. Wake the fk up Wisconsin!!!!!

  14. Says a Poll from Marquette?? You must be an out of towner. Marquette is about as communist as one can be. People know better where it stands.
