DOJ Returns Trump’s Passports as Both Parties Seek Explanation

-

The is offering all three of former President 's passports back after agents took them while executing a search warrant at .

Today's development comes as questions from both sides of the aisle grow over the unprecedented raid. (RELATED: DOJ Opposes Making Details of Mar-a-Lago Search Warrant Public)

On one side, Democrats (mostly) want to know about the reported security risks posed by Trump's retention of classified Democrats. Whereas Republicans, led by Trump's most vocal supporters, demand further justification for the search.

USA Today's Bart Jansen, Kevin Johnson, Rick Rouan, Ella Lee and Will Carless report:

The notification about the passports came Monday in an email made public by Trump's representatives. Jay Bratt, a top official in the Justice Department's National Security Division, said in the email agents determined the travel documents were unrelated to the search Aug. 8 for classified documents.

“We are returning them, and they will be ready for pickup at (the Washington Field Office) at 2 pm today,” Bratt wrote of the two expired passports and one active diplomatic passport.

The FBI said in a statement that in executing search warrants, the agency “follows search and seizure procedures ordered by courts, then returns items that do not need to be retained for purposes.”

Trump claimed Monday the passports had been stolen. “This is an assault on a political opponent at a level never seen before in our Country,” he said in a post on .

Appearing last night on “The Ingraham Angle,” Trump lawyer Christina Bobb called the FBI's decision to take Trump's passports an overreach. “There's no room for error,” Bobb told host , before adding “so I don't give them a pass as this was a simple mistake.”

have already requested that the Justice Department preserve all documents related to the search. (RELATED: Trump Responds to Threats Against Federal Law Enforcement)

If Republicans reclaim the House and possibly the , expect the GOP to investigate DOJ's actions.

  1. Speaking of Trump’s mistakes, I think his biggest was thinking when elected that he was dealing with honorable people. Nothing could be farther from the truth and that bunch of anti American traitors, especially the RINO trash like Liz Cheney and Mit Romney to mention just two.

    • The MSM has ignored all the Obama operatives working behind the scenes.
Consider an AP story 17 May 2020. The headline was that Obama criticized Trump’s virus response during an online graduation speech. A few sentences further, they stated Obama also repeated the critical comments during “a routine conference call with 3000 members of his administration.”
So, Obama left the White House Jan 2017, but conducts routine conference calls with “3000 members” of his administration!
It is only logical to assume that most of the 3000 are still in Federal Civil Service, the military, and some have moved into the MSM.

They worked hard to undermine Trump, just as they are working hard to prop up Biden & his crew.
Conference calls with 3000 people require planning, coordination, support, and infrastructure. That means a lot of people who know about it intentionally looked the other way, or happily joined in.

No chance of it now, but if the DOJ or FBI examined the records of those calls, they would undoubtedly find most of the participants are currently in the Federal government, the military, and the MSM.

      • And if that doesn’t scare the he*l out of you, nothing will. If the America hating obama is involved you know it’s not good for our country. The GOP must win the majority this November, and the one in 2024, if we are to save our republic from destruction by the left. When they do have the majority, to include the white house, they need to purge every democrat from our government. These next two election cycles may well be our last chance to save our nation from those wanting to make it their version of a socialist government, with them in control of course.

  2. When the GOP reclaims control of the House, I expect them to do more than investigate the DOJ. I expect them to impeach Merrick Garland and remove him from office, then do the same for Creepy Joe and Kamel toe.

  3. And they are making them available in the Washington office. HEY, HAND DELIVER THEM BACK WHERE YOU FOUND THEM!

  4. They need to return the passports to Mar-a-Largo. President Trump should not have to pick them up or even send someone to do it! What is this but pure malicious stupidity?! All his attorney/client privileged documents should also be returned they are not part of this latest witch hunt! I do think that it is time the FBI came clean about a great many things and then be purged to the janitorial level with everyone else getting their marching orders and those who have been involved in these egregious happenings concerning President Trump should be the first to be dismissed.

  5. Not just investigate!!!! They better JAIL people this time around. And play hardball just like the Dems do. DO NOT STOP

  6. Project Veritas released a leaked document today from within the Department of Homeland Security which shows how federal agencies are reacting to the recent raid of President Trump’s Florida home.

In the document, the DHS warns of a heightened security risk for federal agents, specifically FBI agents, because of the Mar-a-Lago raid.

In addition to listing potential warning signs for Domestic Violent Extremists [DVEs], the DHS predicts that violent threats may continue to escalate this year.

    • Remember all those Domestic Terrorists who spoke up at school board meetings? Those terrorists are probably the most immediate threat to FBI agents and Garland. Better keep an eye on them.

  7. When Mr. Trump gets re-elected, I hope he claps ALL the buggers in leg irons…that is, until the irate, enraged populace get a hold of them. What happens then is anybody’s guess.

  8. John P, I agree with you. I also, noted another commenter observed the same thing (that it appears as though Trump went into this thing assuming he was dealing with honorable people). Well, he learned right quick the exact opposite is the case. However, my add on to this is….. he has been going through hell for over 6+ years, and has learned quite a lot. Fighting with polecats on an even footing is just gonna leave you stinking. It’s best to bring a shotgun. But that is the only mistake he made; assuming that others were honorable. While, all along doing the right thing; and remaining honorable himself. The swamp shall be drained.

    • Trump dealt in the business world, where being honorable is essential to survival. He looked at the presidency as an extension of the business world.

  9. Taking passports? Sounds like the act of someone seeking to erase a political rival. Accuse him of unspecified crimes, break into his home with politically motivated search warrants, steal his passports so that he cannot travel. This political persecution of Trump is going way too far. I never thought I’d live to see the day when the US would become a dictatorship.

    • You forgot to mention to use the ‘raid’ as a great opportunity to ‘plant’ false information in the sieged ‘evidence’.

  10. NEVER DISCUSSED BUSINESS W HUNTER, DONT’ KNOW WHY HE TRAVELED ON THE TAX PAYERS DIME, SHARED AN OFFICE BUT HE SAT ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ROOM.DON’T KNOW WHY HE HAD CLASSIFIED MATERIAL ON HIS COMPUTER. DON’T KNOW WHY HE MADE TRIPS WHEN HE DID NOT WORK FOR THE THE US GOVERNMENT

  11. “On one side, Democrats (mostly) want to know about the reported security risks posed by Trump’s retention of classified Democrats.” What classification were those democrats?
