A key deputy of ATF Director Steven Dettelbach has become the media phenomenon of liberty-loving internet meme makers overnight.
During an interview with CBS’ Face The Nation which aired Sunday, the acting chief of the ATF’s Firearms Ammunition Technology Division, Chris Bort couldn’t assemble or disassemble a Glock handgun.
Glock models such as the 19, 43, and 43x are among the most commonly owned handguns in America. Per Glock’s own website, “today, the GLOCK pistol is made from an average of only 35 parts, which is significantly fewer than any other pistol on the market and makes it more durable, reliable, and easier to maintain.”
Eagle Arms also notes, “the Glock’s popularity is evident in the number of people who own one. There are an estimated 65 million Glocks in circulation worldwide, with over nine million guns located in the United States”, as well as the fact that it is a “favorite among law enforcement and military personnel.”
As the leader of the Firearms Ammunition Technology Division for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, Bort should be no stranger to these guns, especially if the 15 years of experience with the Bureau he notes on his LinkedIn (which was screenshotted by the liked of the Firearms Policy Coalition for their edit of the interview) have consisted of anything more than just filling a suit inside the Beltway.
