ANALYSIS – The close-call attempted assassination for former President Donald Trump has heightened concerns about growing political violence in America.
But some are focusing more on fears of an overreaction by former President Donald Trump than on those who want to bring him down.
This was a major topic at the prestigious Aspen Security Forum, and is also the subject of a new documentary called “War Game.”
The focus, in both, of course, is on Trump.
Politico just reported that “attendees at the [15th annual] Aspen Security Forum expressed worries about security lapses that allowed the shooting, the potential for further political instability and whether the reelection of the former president would drive him to adopt more hardline positions in response to Saturday's attack.”
The Forum is being held in Aspen, Colorado from July 16-19. This, at the same time as the Republican National Convention (RNC), so even without the shooting attack, politics would have loomed larger than usual.
The forum is also a who's who of national security. Per its website:
The Forum features the highest caliber of speakers, including domestic and international government officials, business executives, leading academics, and noted journalists…
Convening annually each summer in Aspen, Colorado and each winter in Washington, DC, the Forum is attended by hundreds of high-level audience members, including U.S. and foreign government officials, military leaders, scholars, business executives, media, and young professionals.
The lawmakers, diplomats and other national security professionals who gather at the Aspen conference each year can have significant influence on U.S. policies.
And that's what is concerning. Politico added about the ongoing forum:
Some speculated that a second-term Trump could use the assassination attempt as an excuse to impose security crackdowns on groups such as Muslims and immigrants on hyped grounds that they posed a threat.
If Trump were to take such actions, “the security and civil liberties consequences could be severe,” said a Democratic lawmaker who, like others, was granted anonymity to speak candidly.
Meanwhile, others, more realistically, downplayed that concern. “If you go back and look at what Trump said versus what he did as president, his bark was always far nastier than what he did,” said John Herbst, senior director of the Atlantic Council's Eurasia Center.
Still, others were thinking beyond the attempt on Trump and looking at the impact the shooting could have in the months ahead, perhaps making the political environment even more polarized and fomenting domestic unrest.
Amidst all this current hype, “War Game,” which opens in select theaters on Aug. 2, 2024, explores a hypothetical coup attempt by a sitting president who is asking his supporters and members of the U.S. military to join him in taking back the election that was “stolen” from him.
In this fictional event, Military.com writes: “President John Hotham (played by actual former Montana Gov. Steve Bullock), and his team of advisers have six hours in the White House situation room to preserve American democracy and prevent a civil war.” However, most of the participants are left-leaning or outright Democrats.

The outlet added: “In September 2022, the group hosted an actual exercise that simulated an escalation in the violence around the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol insurrection. In this exercise, however, members of the U.S. military joined the insurrectionist cause.”
Military.com continues:
The game was inspired by a December 2021 op-ed in The Washington Post, written by three retired generals, that called on the Department of Defense to conduct such a war game should another Jan. 6-like insurrection unfold after the 2024 presidential election. Vet Voice invited the bipartisan panel of experts to play as U.S. government officials while a team of military veterans, experts in extremist tactics, operated as the Red Cell (opposing forces) to prevent the peaceful transfer of power.
“The purpose of the exercise,” as Vet Voice explained in a statement, “was to assess weakness and vulnerabilities within our political system, [to] harden our democratic institutions, and [to] better prepare our political and military leaders to confront and manage such a crisis. … If the Red Cell wins, democracy loses.”
Meanwhile, no one appears focused on how an internal resistance movement (“Resist”) against a democratically elected president deemed “illegitimate,” or considered a “Manchurian Candidate,” by his opponents and the “Deep State,” could lead to its subversive own coup d'etat.
Yet, we saw just this during Trump's first term. And now that Trump is portrayed by Joe Biden and the Democrats as a “threat to democracy,” we could see it again,
That, to me, is a far more likely, and worrisome, scenario.

DNC gaslighting and fear-mongering again. Accusing President Trump of what they did all during POTUS Trump’s first term. They’ve tried silencing him by banning him from Social Media Public Forums; then by impeaching him; then by engaging in Abuse of Process, Malicious Prosecution, Barratry, i.e. “Lawfare” against him. Now, assassination attempts first by the US Dept of Justice proclaiming “Use of Deadly Force Authorized” since Mar-a-Lago; then by Joe Biden saying “put a bullseye on Trump”; latest Jen “Wacky” Psaki expressing CONCERNS about their Allied News Media Propagandists’ lives rather than for POTUS Trump and us, his supporters. It’s like she’s saying “go ahead, try again, but just be careful not to hit any of our Journalists” in between the lines. These people ARE A THREAT LIBERTY, the Bill of Rights, the Constitution, and the sooner we vote them out of office, and replace all their lackeys in Law Enforcement and other weaponized Federal Agencies the freer we Americans will be able to breathe, live our lives, etc. Chad Joseph Albuquerque, NM 87111
These are the very same hypocrites who call Trump a “Nazi, Hitler, and a Threat to Democracy” and in another breath, Biden and his ilk wish Trump a speedy recovery?
The extreme left needs to stop Pissing on Our Leg and Convincing us it’s raining.
If anyone is prone to launching a Coup d’Etat it would be DEMOCRATS, who could very well SUSPEND THE NOVEMBER 2024 ELECTION `a la Zelenskyy in the name of “national security”. Desperate dictatorial demagogues will stoop to anything to stay in power.
