In 2005, Tim Walz, Kamala Harris' running mate, made headlines for breaking a verbal pledge to deploy to Iraq. Prior to the deployment, Walz, then a member of the Minnesota National Guard, expressed a firm commitment to serve, stating, “I have a responsibility to serve … if called on.”
However, when Walz's unit was called to deploy, he chose to continue his run for Congress instead. This decision contradicted his earlier statement and raised questions about his commitment to his military responsibilities. Despite his role as Command Sergeant Major, where he emphasized the importance of preparing his battalion for Iraq and serving if called, Walz opted to continue his political campaign.
In a press release at the time, Walz reiterated his dedication to his congressional run, acknowledging his military responsibilities but ultimately prioritizing his political aspirations. He had even suggested a willingness to leave his family behind to serve overseas, a sacrifice expected of soldiers. Instead, Walz left the military, while his unit deployed to Iraq without him.
This incident was brought back into the spotlight by Jack Posobiec, who unearthed the press release from the Walz campaign.

Walz served in the Minnesota Army National Guard and retired at the rank of master sergeant, or an E-8. However, on his official website bio, he lists a higher rank that he served at for a short period that ultimately was rescinded, as he did not complete all the requirements to serve at that rank. However, his bio implies that he retired at the rank of command sergeant major, or an E-9.

Two retired Army Command Sergeant Majors, Thomas Behrends and Paul Herr, wrote in a letter published November 2, 2018, in the West Central Tribune, a local news outlet, that Walz on September 17, 2004, was “conditionally promoted” to Command Sergeant Major but then later failed to meet the conditions of the promotion, which they said was later nullified.
“On September 17th, 2004 he was conditionally promoted to Command Sergeant Major. The conditions had been outlined to him when he was counseled and he signed the Statement of Agreement and Certification. If the conditions are not met, the promotion is null and void, like it never happened,” they wrote.
They asserted that once his unit received orders to deploy to Iraq, he quit.

We need to see his military DD-214 Certificate which shows ALL of his “assignments” and “medals” during his enlistment. It needs to be made public immediately by the Harris/Walz team to all of the Press and posted on X, Facebook, and Instagram among others.
He said he was in combat using weapons similar to the AR-15 – let him prove it!
