TUESDAY PDB – How our military can deter foreign conflicts and win future wars. As the world has become increasingly unstable under the Biden-Harris presidency, the risk of the U.S. military having to fight a three-theater war has never been higher.
We are already involved in two conflicts – the Russia-Ukraine one, by proxy, in Europe and another one in the Middle East, as Israel is defending itself against the Iranian-led Axis of Resistance. A war with China over Taiwan also may erupt as early as next year.
But how can America win three simultaneous wars if it has struggled to win one single war in a quarter of a century? Think Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria and Libya.
No decisive meaningful military victory has been achieved by U.S. forces in these conflicts, despite the fact that it has faced much smaller opponents who lack advanced weaponry and some don't even have a regular army.
And all this, while, tactically, our military is the best war-fighting force in military history.
FOR YOUR EYES ONLY – Here's a roundup of today's other top defense stories from conservative national security expert PAUL CRESPO.
Not the President's Daily Brief, but almost as good – PAUL'S DAILY BRIEFING – the PDB:
NATIONAL SECURITY
Telegram's security sham. The French government's arrest of Telegram founder and decision to charge him with crimes related to Telegram's failure to moderate its users' sharing of illegal content has reignited a debate over secure messaging services, content moderation, and free speech.
This debate should highlight the relative safety of platforms like fully encrypted-by-default Signal app over cloud-based social media services with direct messaging capabilities like Telegram app—a service likely compromised by many governments.
HOMELAND SECURITY
Ex-soldier accused of shooting 5 on Kentucky interstate vowed to ‘kill a lot of people.' Authorities in Kentucky said Monday that the man was in the Army Reserve and not the National Guard. He served from 2013 to 2019 as a combat engineer as a private and had no deployments.
Virginia Guard says it's investigating Guardsmen running a rural anti-government militia. Two soldiers who have espoused anti-government views are running a county-sanctioned militia in the state.
BIDEN-HARRIS AFGHAN DISASTER
GOP report blames Biden-Harris for disastrous end to US war in Afghanistan. The scathing report on the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan minimizes the role of former President Donald Trump, who had signed the withdrawal deal with the Taliban.
POLITICS
THEY DON'T ‘WANT' IT – IT IS ALREADY HERE – Hawks want a new Cold War but are cagey about the cost. So, we did the math. The Commission on the National Defense Strategy proposed in a recent report significant entitlement cuts and tax increases to drastically increase military spending.
GOOD – Tuberville puts hold on military promotion for top Austin aide. Sen. Tommy Tuberville has placed a hold on the promotion of Lt. Gen. Ronald Clark, a top aide to Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin.

CHINA THREAT
Japan complains after Chinese ships armed with machine guns sail near disputed islets. This is its third complaint in less than two weeks, after Chinese coast guard vessels entered waters around Japanese islets in the East China Sea.
A timeline of the 2024 Sabina Shoal standoff. The shoal, known to the Philippines as Escoda and by China as Xianbin Jiao, and located 75 nautical miles from the Philippine province of Palawan, is the latest flashpoint between Manila and Beijing. The standoff began in April following China launching an island reclamation project.
Dissecting China's purported carrier strategy against Taiwan. A recent report outlines how China would likely use its aircraft carriers as part of Beijing's much-touted anti-access/area-denial (A2/AD) strategy. It noted that Chinese carrier ops are “geared towards ‘denying' the U.S. military access to the Taiwan Strait area of operations.”
BUT WILL BEIJING ANSWER DURING A CRISIS? – US and Chinese military commanders speak by phone for the first time in years. The two superpowers are working to re-establish military ties in an effort to avoid conflict.

“Dragon drones” are spitting fire in the Russia-Ukraine war. Fire rains down on Russian positions in clips shared by the Ukrainian military, showcasing yet another drone-borne concoction in Eastern Europe.
More Ukrainians want to negotiate an end to the war. Soldiers don't agree. The debate highlights a tension in Ukrainian society between those who are in combat and those who aren't
SPACE THREAT
