ANALYSIS – And he is absolutely correct. Remember that Democrats are very quick to blame conservative rhetoric for inciting hate or violence, even when it's not even remotely at fault.
But somehow, they refuse to accept that their own hyper-deranged rhetoric against former President Donald Trump, and his scores of millions of supporters, can have deadly effects.
Most recently, their repeated assaults on Trump as an “existential threat to democracy,” often espoused by the most prominent Democrats including Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, can reasonably be tied to violence against conservatives.
And in an interview with Dr. Phil McGraw (aka Dr. Phil), Trump directly linked their rhetoric to his assassination attempt.
As Newsmax reported:
“People would ask, Whose fault is it? I think to a certain extent it's Biden's fault and Harris' fault,” Trump said, noting that the Democrats consistently label him a “threat to democracy.”
“And I'm the opponent,” Trump added. “Look, they were weaponizing government against me. They brought in the whole DOJ to try and get me. They weren't too interested in my health and safety.”
Newsmax added:
A common refrain over the past several years from Biden and Harris is that Trump is a “threat to democracy.” Trump told Dr. Phil during the hourlong interview that their attacks are misplaced. “They're saying I'm a threat to democracy. No, they're a threat.”
“They would say that. That was a standard line, just keep saying it. And, you know, that can get assassins or potential assassins going. Maybe that bullet is because of their rhetoric,” Trump said.
The Washington Post notes:
Trump's [valid] comments marked an escalation in accusations against a sitting president and vice president, the latter of whom is his current opponent. Although Trump has previously written on social media that the “Biden/Harris administration did not properly protect” him, his comments in the interview took his claims a step further by personally blaming Biden and Harris.
Trump also blamed Biden-Harris for lapses in Secret Service protection.
“Our people were always fighting to get more security, more Secret Service, and he knew that we didn't have enough,” Trump said of Biden. Trump added: “He always made it very tough for us to have the proper number of Secret Service people.”
Trump's team has had a tense relationship with Secret Service leadership over the former president's security after top officials repeatedly denied requests for additional protection before the attempted assassination.
Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle resigned last month amid anger over the agency's inability to prevent the attempted assassination.
According to MSNBC, McGraw also asked Trump: “I'm not saying that they [Biden and Harris] wanted you to get shot, but do you think it was OK with them if you did?”
“I don't know. I mean, I don't know,” Trump responded. “There's a lot of hatred. I don't know why. I had a great presidency.”
While I'm on board with his assessment, clearly Democrats strongly disagree.
