During a CNN appearance, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley argued that the Supreme Court should reject Donald Trump's claim of immunity from prosecution for actions taken while he was president.

Earlier this week, the Supreme Court decided that it would hear Trump's appeal — the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals recently ruled against him on this matter — in April and rule on it by the end of the term, drawing criticism from pundits on the left who have said that this represented a political gift to the former President. Special Counsel Jack Smith's case against Trump for alleged criminal action taken while he tried to overturn the results of the 2020 election cannot proceed until the question of Trump's immunity is decided.
On CNN, Haley praised the Court for answering the question and suggested that it should quickly rule against Trump.
“This means that there's a very good chance that the trial, if it does go forward, won't happen until either right before or even during and maybe even after the election,” observed host Dana Bash.
“Should the Supreme Court expedite this?” she asked Haley.
“Well, I think the Supreme Court should hear it because we do want to look at immunity. No president should ever be above the law. And, you know, we've never really had to clarify this before, and I think it's important for the Supreme Court to clarify,” Haley responded. “Would we like to see things go faster? Of course, we would. But do you think the judges and the lawyers are going to have that happen? I don't know, I mean, it could be that it takes a while, but I'm just glad that they're hearing it. I think that's important.”
Haley claimed she didn't regret not attacking Trump harder earlier in the GOP primaries. “I defeated a dozen other fellas because I focused on each one… the last one was always going to be Donald Trump,” she replied.
