Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear (D) doesn't appear interested in a White House Cabinet position after being passed over for Kamala Harris's running mate.
“I'm right where I'm supposed to be,” he told reporters at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. “I love being governor of Kentucky. I've got 3 1/2 years left to do my best.”
Beshear was among those rumored as a possible running mate to Vice President and Democrat nominee Kamala Harris. He endorsed Harris for the role after President Joe Biden dropped out of the 2024 presidential race.
Harris ultimately selected Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate.
However, Beshear has remained a vocal advocate for Harris saying Tuesday that he has faith her stances on divisive issues such as the border can win over independent voters.
“Yes we need strong borders and border security is national security, but we're still talking about human beings,” he said.
The topic of White House Cabinet positions has commanded recent headlines after The Washington Post first reported that Independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. reached out to Kamala Harris's team about a future role. (RELATED: Report: RFK Jr. Sought Harris Meeting To Line Up Potential Cabinet Job
According to a Democrat official, Harris was less than enthusiastic about the proposal and firmly rejected RFK Jr.
“No one has any intention of negotiating with a MAGA-funded fringe candidate who has sought out a job with Donald Trump in exchange for an endorsement,” Democratic National Committee spokesperson Matt Corridoni told The Hill in a statement.
According to CNN, Trump is willing to consider RFK Jr. for a role in his administration, on the condition that RFK Jr. withdraws and endorses him.
“I like him, and I respect him,” Trump told CNN's Kristen Holmes from the campaign trail in Michigan.
“He's a brilliant guy. He's a very smart guy. I've known him for a very long time,” Trump added. “I didn't know he was thinking about getting out, but if he is thinking about getting out, certainly I'd be open to it.”
