Bombshell Book Resurfaces Revealing Former Staff’s Contempt For Harris

In January a book was released, sharing damning interviews and sound bites from former employees of Kamala Harris.

The Daily Caller reports:

A book written by progressives, about progressives, blasted Kamala Harris at a time when political observers speculated whether she would be replaced as Joe Biden’s vice president. In it, White House aides outlined Harris’s inability to define a political agenda and her total reliance on personality.

A former staffer lamented, “It was rotten from the start. A lot of us, at least folks that I was friends with on the campaign, all realized that: ‘Yeah, this person should not be president of the United States.”

The Daily Caller continued:

The scathing quotes from insiders of her failed 2020 campaign painted a picture of Harris as a vapid and ineffectual leader who offers no clear picture of who she is politically or how she would govern as the president.

Their beliefs seem well founded, as a full month into her candidacy for the 2024 election cycle, Harris has yet to articulate her platform, and has avoided press questions and interviews.

Harris hired her sister Maya as campaign chair, who frequently butted heads with her campaign manager. It seems as though the two were never able to fully reconcile their differences, and contributed significantly to the campaign’s chaotic and confusing environment.

The Daily Caller wrote:

Staffers described a high level of dysfunction centered on the relationship between Harris’s sister Maya, who served as the campaign’s chair, and Bearstars Strategies’ Juan Rodriguez, who was serving as her campaign manager.

One senior staffer described a particularly uncomfortable encounter to the authors of the bombshell book.

“It was the most awkward day of my life. People were literally having a thirty-minute audit meeting with Juan about how the campaign was going and then they were walking across the hall into the same meeting with Maya…I remember Juan popping into my office to find out how the meeting with Maya went.”

A fundraising consultant recounted, “She cared less about how much money I was raising for her and more about what I was doing to create a good inclusive workspace.”

Readers should note that when Harris recused herself from the Democratic primary in December 2019, lack of funds was cited as the primary motivation for the decision. 

The book goes on to clarify that the book wasn’t just sourced from her presidential campaign, but from staff members of offices she held throughout the last decade.

The Daily Caller shared:

Rather than an isolated incident unique to her presidential campaign, the book’s authors say reports of toxicity came from staffers who worked with her in San Francisco, in the Senate, her presidential campaign and as Vice President.

The authors of the book seemed to anticipate her 2024 supporters dismissing what they shared as the accounts of a handful of embittered former employees, and specified that the quotes they shared “came from sources who signed up to work for her and, at least at one point, wanted her to succeed. It’s impossible to dismiss all of their critiques as entirely the result of prejudice.”

In November 2019, shortly before she officially withdrew from the presidential run, the campaign’s state operations manager resigned in a scathing letter that was leaked to The New York Times.

Kelly Mehlenbacher wrote, “This is my third presidential campaign and I have never seen an organization treat its staff so poorly.”

The authors of the book went on to perfectly summarize the questions that haunted her campaign, and that many donors, staffers and volunteers are still trying to answer.

“While Harris’s campaign was unquestionably successful in the sense that it elevated her to the second-highest office in the land, those closest to it were left with deep-seated doubts about her ability to lead. The fear was Kamala Harris could not win a race against Donald Trump, or perhaps against any Republican at all.”
