Legendary Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre recently revealed a personal health battle – he has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Favre made this revelation during his opening statement before Congress, a moment that took millions by surprise.
“Sadly, I also lost an investment in a company that I believed was developing a breakthrough concussion drug I thought would help others, and I’m sure you’ll understand why it’s too late for me because I’ve recently been diagnosed with Parkinson’s,” Favre disclosed to lawmakers.
“This is also a cause dear to my heart. Recently, the doctor, running the company pleaded guilty to taking (public) money for his own use.”

Favre is best known for his stellar football career, primarily as the quarterback for three NFL teams:

Parkinson’s disease is a neurodegenerative disorder that primarily affects movement. It occurs due to the gradual breakdown of nerve cells in the brain, particularly in a region called the substantia nigra, where dopamine, a chemical critical for movement regulation, is produced. As dopamine levels decline, individuals experience a variety of motor symptoms, such as tremors, stiffness, slowed movement and balance issues.
While Parkinson’s is a progressive disease – meaning symptoms worsen over time – the rate of progression varies from person to person. Early treatment is key to improving quality of life, and current therapies focus on managing symptoms.
