Podcaster Joe Rogan offered a grim warning to free speech enthusiasts across the country, suggesting that if Kamala secures the 270 electoral votes necessary to secure victory, Americans will see sharp and swift crackdowns on their First Amendment rights.
His guest, referring to online censorship, said “I just hope this shit starts to turn around”
“I do too. But “I don’t think it turns around if Kamala Harris gets into office. I think they clamp down more. I think the same stuff that they were trying to do with Twitter, they’ll try to do with something else, with other things — they’ve already openly discussed it. She’s already discussed that the same rules have to apply to Facebook, they have to apply to Twitter, and that Elon Musk could lose his privileges…there’s so many wild things that they are saying.”
Rogan may be referring to a growing international left wing push for centralized standards on censoring “hate speech” and “misinformation.”
In a recent interview, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair pressed world leaders to come together to create global standards for social media usage to curb what they identify as “misinformation” and “hate speech.”
The DNC and the Harris campaign in particular have increased their collaboration with their British counterparts in recent years — especially as it relates to their efforts online. DNC employees and consultants credited their 2020 victory to their online suppression efforts.
Rogan continued, “Tim Walz said that the First Amendment doesn’t apply to misinformation or hate speech. K, well, it certainly does. The goal of the First Amendment is you say something wrong, then this guy, who’s an expert, says the right thing.”
His guest replied, “It’s all opinion.”
Rogan went on to remind his listeners of the bizarre and widespread standards on social media during the pandemic, and how what was labeled “misinformation” or fact checked as false in 2020 was later revealed to be true. “So much of it turns out to be true. How about ‘masks don’t work?’ You would get screamed at for ‘masks don’t work.’ Well guess what, they don’t fucking work. Fauci has said masks don’t work. Remember that interview, before the pandemic, before they knew how big it was gonna be? He was like ‘you don’t have to wear a mask’…it’s bananas how easily people fell in line. That scared me the most.”
Social media platforms were also particularly harsh when it came to critiques of vaccine efficacy and the origins of COVID. At one point, users would be flagged and risked losing their account for making statements like, “vaccine recipients can still contract coronavirus” or repeating the Chinese lab leak theory, despite both claims being vindicated down the line.
Elon Musk quoted a clip of the interaction on X (formerly known as Twitter) writing, “Joe Rogan is absolutely right.”
Despite his best efforts, Musk himself recently caved to demands to Brazil’s socialist government, and agreed to censor users according to their standards, contradicting his previous promises that he wouldn’t give in.
