New York Attorney General Letitia James has pledged to “fight back” against former President Donald Trump, following his reelection victory less than 24 hours ago. Speaking at a press conference, James vowed to New Yorkers that her office would actively respond to any potential policy shifts that could impact the state.
“We did not expect this result,” James began, addressing the gathered press with a somber tone. “But we use the rule of law to fight back.” James assured residents of her readiness, identifying herself and her office as “guardians of the law.”
James revealed that her office has developed a “contingency plan” to anticipate and respond to Trump’s renewed leadership. “So here we are,” she continued, detailing the careful planning her team has undertaken in recent months. “We’ve studied their platforms. We’ve identified certain possibilities, and we’ve created contingency plans. No matter what the next administration throws at us, we are ready.”

Calling for public resolve, James urged New Yorkers to remain “faithful” rather than fearful. “This is not the time to be fearful, New York,” she stated. “But steadfast, knowing that I, as the attorney general, along with my entire team, are prepared to fight back.”
James has been vocal in her opposition to Trump throughout her tenure, controversially pledging to “get Trump” during her campaign for attorney general. Now, with Trump once again in office, she reaffirmed her determination to use all legal avenues to counter his administration’s policies.

In taking today’s stance, James reiterated her commitment to vehemently opposing President-elect Trump’s America First agenda, just one day after he won both the Electoral College and popular vote.
