Who will President-elect Trump tap to be the next U.S. Attorney General?
On Monday, Missouri Sen. Eric Schmitt confirmed reports that he removed himself from consideration for the coveted position.
“I ran for the U.S. Senate to represent the people of the Show Me State and I’m just getting started. The American people have given President Trump a mandate. A mandate to secure our border, make America energy dominant and fight for the forgotten men and women of this country,” Schmitt wrote on X.
“We need America First fighters who don’t just say they support the agenda but who are willing to stand in the breach and actually fight for it and for the hopes and dreams of the American people. I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and be a champion for President Trump in the Senate,” he added.
Can confirm.

Schmitt had previously served as the attorney general of Missouri.
Trump has made multiple staffing announcements since securing his landslide victory over Vice President Kamala Harris last week.
The President-elect first announced Susie Wiles will serve as his Chief of Staff.
“Susie Wiles just helped me achieve one of the greatest political victories in American history, and was an integral part of both my 2016 and 2020 successful campaigns,” President Trump said. “Susie is tough, smart, innovative, and is universally admired and respected. Susie will continue to work tirelessly to Make America Great Again. It is a well deserved honor to have Susie as the first-ever female Chief of Staff in United States history. I have no doubt that she will make our country proud.”
Trump has also selected Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) to serve as the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, and he has announced Stephen Miller as the White House deputy chief of staff for policy.
Vice President-elect JD Vance posted a message of congratulations to Miller on X Monday morning.
“This is another fantastic pick by the president,” Vance wrote, following a CNN report about Trump’s pick.

Eric is one of the best. He'll be a tremendous help to the president as we work to stop the weaponization of government against American citizens. https://t.co/iWhsWkLn0Y
