To no one’s surprise, House Democrats are once again looking to capitalize on recent national tragedies in Buffalo and Uvalde, Texas, in order to push their radical gun control agenda.
Although Congress is formally in recess this week, an emergency markup of a package of eight bills called the “Protecting Our Kids Act” is scheduled for tomorrow.
Punchbowl News summarized elements included in the package in yesterday’s brief:
“The omnibus package includes bills to raise the purchasing age for semi-automatic rifles from 18 to 21; ban the import, sale, manufacture, transfer or possession of high-capacity ammunition magazines, although existing magazines are “grandfathered” in; requires existing bump stocks be registered under the National Firearms Act and bars the manufacture, sale, or possession of new bump stocks for civilian use; amends the definition of “ghost guns” to require background checks on all sales, as ATF is trying to do through rulemaking; beefs up federal criminal penalties for gun trafficking and “straw purchases”; and establishes new requirements for storing guns at home – especially with minors present – while providing tax credits for storage devices.”
We can all see that Democrats are very good at putting a metaphorical bow on legislation to make it sound good on C-SPAN and in cable news clips, but when we dig a little deeper, we realize that they appear to have been biding their time, just waiting for an opportunity to bring these bills to the forefront of their legislative agenda.
All but one of the eight bills that make up the omnibus package were introduced in 2021 and haven’t been brought up since. The only bill in the package that was introduced in 2022 was done so in January of this year.
From coast to coast, attempts by state legislatures to infringe upon our Second Amendment rights are already being found unconstitutional in the courts, thanks in part to the impact that former President Donald Trump had by appointing constitutionally sound judges across the country.
A California law passed in 2019 that would have banned individuals under the age of 21 from purchasing semi-automatic firearms was struck down just last month in the Ninth Circut Court of Appeals.
Judge Ryan Nelson, a Trump appointee, wrote the following on behalf of the court:
“America would not exist without the heroism of the young adults who fought and died in our revolutionary army. Today we reaffirm that our Constitution still protects the right that enabled their sacrifice: the right of young adults to keep and bear arms.”
In Virginia, a similar ban that would have limited adults aged 18-20 from purchasing semi-automatic weapons from federally licensed dealers was struck down in the Fourth Circut Court of Appeals last summer.
Back to the legislative front, it seems no such legislation would make enough headway in the Senate to overcome the filibuster threshold of 60 votes — even if it is passed by the House next week following this week’s markup.

No doubt led by the commies in the House Progressive Caucus. Your representatives from the Communist countries of the world. No? Not your representatives? Well at least 25% of the House belongs to this organization which has the same goals as the rest of the Communists in America and the rest of the world. That is, disarm America and put in place a Marxist, socialist, government that they can control. It is called The New World Order or The Great Reset. But you knew that didn’t you? Well now you do. Their bosses just met in Davos to discuss your future. There were a lot of people their who want to control you, even the governor of my state was there for some unknown reason, I guess because he can’t run for election again. That should be against the law. Pretty sure very few people in Indiana voted for him to be there.

Doesn’t this say something to anyone?????It seems that any way they can ‘arrange’ for people to die, be it abortion, starvation, shooting us up with drugs, letting criminals into the country at the border, just to name a few. After all, there are many ways to depopulate and they certainly don’t try to hide it!

Oh, and can you please include imprisonment for hunter from that straw purchased handgun he has, and jail time for husbands of the speaker, those ‘high capacity’ DUI Porsche owners?

NO ONE IS TAKING MY GUN! My main problem is getting 380 ammo. I have not been able to find any, so that I can go to the range — only 5 rounds left. Face it! We have a two-tier justice system. The so-called lawmakers and rich have the funds that enable them to stay safe, but we are criminals for owning guns to protect home and family. We ALL better look hard at WHO we are electing. Just being “Republican” is NOT good enough. Dems and RINOS MUST GO! No more McConnells and Grahams and Cheneys, etc. Do your own research into the candidates, so we get the RIGHT people who believe in and uphold the U.S. and State Constitutions; who truly represent the U.S. citizens who elect them; who “say what they mean and mean what they say.” GOD BLESS THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!! By the way, if people do not like the U.S. of A., they are more than free to leave it.
