Iowa House Sends 3 Pro-Gun Bills To Governor

-

While some states are working to burden gun owners with restrictive regulations that infringe upon their gun rights, freedom-loving legislators in are working to secure rights in their state.

The three bills that have been sent to the desk of Governor are as follows, per the National Rifle Association's Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA):

House File 2556 enhances Iowa's existing firearm preemption laws, which prohibits local jurisdictions from imposing any ordinance, motion, resolution, policy, or amendment that is inconsistent or more severe than state law. This uniformity helps protect citizens' Second Amendment rights by preventing a patchwork of regulations. HF 2556 improves the existing law by providing an enforcement mechanism to help ensure compliance by assigning a monetary value to damages that occur as a result of violations.

HF 2586 would provide school staff with the ability to carry on campus if they acquire a professional permit and receive additional training. This opportunity would be available to employees in participating school districts. Staff who obtain a permit to carry on campus and complete the necessary training requirements would be entitled to important legal protections. This would support school employees in cases where is used, and if the incident occurred on campus and during active school hours.

HF 2464 provides critical privacy protections on financial data for those purchasing firearms, firearm parts, and ammunition by prohibiting the use of firearm/ammunition specific merchant category codes throughout the state. Additionally, HF 2464 provides remedies in cases where a financial institution violates provisions of the bill.

Despite anti-gun moves being made by some states, such as , the overall national attitude towards gun rights seems to be moving in a positive direction. 29 states now have constitutional carry protections, with South Carolina joining the ranks of states with such provisions last month.
