According to a report from The Hill, Gallego is not only seeking to overturn the policy itself but is also pursuing a procedural strategy that could make it easier for Congress to reverse the change.

Today, the European Parliament voted 336-163 to ask the European Commission to amend the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights to include the right to unrestricted abortion through nine months of pregnancy, paid for by tax dollars. Although a majority voted for abortion, the European Conservatives and Reformists Group (ECR) were proportionally the most pro-life voting bloc during the vote.
Fortunately, in order to add abortion to the EU Charter, all EU member states would have to consent to it. Of the 27 nations in the EU, at least three of them have pro-life governments who could veto that amendment: Poland, Hungary and Malta, especially the latter, as their population is overwhelmingly pro-life. We need to pray for and ask our leaders to stand up for women and the preborn.
Sadly, 39 European Parliament members abstained rather than stand for life. They included the head of Marine Le Pen’s French nationalist party (Le Rassemblement National) and Jordan Bardella, who is running for reelection with the ID (Identity and Democracy) group.
In June, the entire Parliament will be up for reelection in the European elections which occur every five years. This gives Christians a chance to vote for pro-life candidates who will reject any attempt to fund or force abortion on more conservative member states. The ECR is the most pro-life of the parties, with the EPP (European People’s Party) being the next most pro-life party.
Whatever happens in June and beyond, Pro-Life Global will continue to call Christians to gather in every city, school, and university to be the voice for the voiceless and to practically help those in unexpected pregnancies. Today is not the time to cower in fear. Today is the day of action.
