In a revealing conversation on Tara Palmeri’s Somebody’s Gotta Win podcast, she and Marc Caputo –both former Politico staffers — candidly spilled the beans about the far-left media outlet’s role in shaping public narratives around the 2020 election, particularly in connection to the Hunter Biden laptop controversy. Their remarks have reignited suspicions that the legacy media is heavily compromised in its political reporting and continues to shield Democrats, notably Joe Biden and his family, from scrutiny.
The explosive conversation revolved around Politico, a prominent player in U.S. political media, going out of its way to protect Joe Biden by parroting disinformation provided by the intelligence community during a pivotal moment in the election. Caputo and Palmeri claim that their former employer was not only complicit in the suppression of the Hunter Biden laptop story but also actively participated in spreading misleading narratives that influenced voters.
The article, which cited 51 former U.S. intelligence officers, claimed that the Hunter Biden laptop story bore “the hallmarks of disinformation” and was likely a Russian ploy to interfere in the U.S. election. The timing of this story was especially crucial—just three days before the second presidential debate between Joe Biden and Donald Trump. According to Caputo, the story provided Biden with the perfect talking point to dismiss the story altogether during the debate.
Caputo, who was working as a reporter covering Biden at the time, recalled that the Politico editors actively discouraged any reporting on the Hunter Biden laptop. He said, “I was told this came from on high at Politico: Don’t write about the laptop, don’t talk about the laptop, don’t tweet about the laptop.” Instead, the only article that Politico published on the topic was the one promoting the disinformation narrative—effectively serving as a shield for the Biden campaign during the most critical days of the election.
This line of reporting from Politico and other mainstream outlets helped pave the way for social media censorship of the Hunter Biden laptop story. Instagram, Facebook and Twitter suppressed links to the New York Post’s groundbreaking report on the laptop, which contained evidence of Hunter Biden’s controversial foreign dealings and disturbing criminal activity. Twitter even went as far as suspending the New York Post’s account. Caputo noted the far-reaching consequences of the Politico story, asserting that it was used to justify the censorship of an important piece of reporting that might have swayed voters’ perceptions of the Biden family.
For Caputo and Palmeri, their experiences at Politico are a stark reminder of the lengths to which the media has gone to protect the Bidens and, by extension, the Democratic Party. Caputo further exposed how he had a story about Hunter Biden’s tax issues involving his time at Burisma—a controversial Ukrainian natural gas company—killed by Politico editors in 2019. Caputo was handed a tax lien document as part of an opposition research packet from a rival Democratic campaign, but his efforts to report on the story were shut down without explanation.
While the suppression of the Hunter Biden laptop story is a major talking point, Caputo and Palmeri’s broader commentary speaks to a systemic problem within the media: a widespread tendency to prioritize political goals over journalistic integrity. The willingness of Politico and other outlets to play along with the Deep State narrative surrounding the laptop—by publishing misinformation and disregarding stories that might hurt Biden—reflects a troubling pattern in which the media serves as a political tool rather than an independent check on power.
In response to the claims made by Caputo and Palmeri, Politico attempted to refute the accusations in a statement to Mediaite, claiming that their reporting on Biden was “tough” and that the outlet had done its job by providing a range of stories about the president. However, these claims are undermined by the glaring discrepancies in the timeline of the outlet’s coverage.
