the Trump administration is offering a buyout to thousands of government employees in an attempt to shrink the federal workforce. The administration’s offer, announced via email on Tuesday evening, allows federal workers to resign voluntarily and continue drawing full pay through September 30, 2025, while staying on administrative leave. However, many workers are determined to resist, claiming they are the last line of defense against an “authoritarian agenda.”
The buyout proposal stems from President Donald Trump’s executive order mandating that federal employees return to their offices after a period of remote work triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic. The administration is offering these buyouts to as many as two million federal workers, many of whom have grown comfortable with remote work, and do not want to return to the office. Employees have until February 6 to formally submit their resignations, and those who accept the offer will continue to be paid at full salary while effectively sidelined until September.
But many federal workers are vowing to stay on the job in defiance of the administration. Posts on the Reddit forum r/fednews, a gathering space for federal employees, reveal a growing sense of rebellion and self righteousness.
“I’ll be honest, before that email went out, I was looking for any way to get out of this fresh hell,” one employee posted, which was upvoted by more than 36,000 others. “But now I am fired up to make these goons as frustrated as possible, RTO be damned.” The sentiment is echoed in countless other responses, with workers expressing a sense of determination to stay and “fight the good fight” in direct opposition to the expressed will of the American people.
“We are the last line of defense against fascism,” one worker boldly declared in an upvoted post, though the “fascism” they’re referring to still remains unclear.
Some workers fear that by resigning, they will be left without the promised benefits, especially as the federal budget is approved only until March. These concerns have fueled skepticism about whether the administration will fulfill its financial commitments. “There’s no budget line item to pay people who are not showing up for work,” insisted Senator Tim Kaine (D-Virginia) in response to the buyout proposal. “If you accept that offer and resign, he’ll stiff you.”
The irony of the situation cannot be ignored. While the media and Democratic Party have largely dismissed Trump’s allegations of a deep state plot and its efforts to undermine him, they’ve ultimately proved him right, and that his claims were far from conspiratorial. And in their efforts to sabotage his second presidency, they’re bypassing the will of the American people.

We’ll see, some of this sounds like bluster. It’s easy to talk like this at first and then you think about it … and you can read that some are taking it personal.
In my opinion they are lazy, entitled and do not deserve to be working for the Government.
