The House of Representatives on Wednesday approved a war powers resolution aimed at ending unauthorized U.S. military involvement in Iran, marking the most significant congressional challenge yet to President Donald Trump’s handling of the conflict.

The measure, sponsored by Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-N.Y.) invokes the 1973 War Powers Resolution and would require the administration to obtain explicit authorization from Congress before continuing hostilities against Iran, except in cases involving an imminent threat to the United States. The vote followed months of growing bipartisan concern over a conflict that began in.

The Paradox of Progress and the AI Revolution

There is a peculiar phenomenon in human history: Every great technological advancement is met with both hope and fear. When the printing press was invented, some fretted it would erode traditional authority; when electricity illuminated the world, critics decried its dangers. Today, artificial intelligence stands at the precipice of such a debate, with some warning of dystopian consequences while others herald an age of unprecedented prosperity. A closer examination, however, suggests that AI, far from a harbinger of doom, is poised to exponentially increase productivity, creativity and wealth—ushering in a golden era of human advancement.

Opponents of AI’s rapid growth invoke Jevons Paradox, the economic principle that technological efficiency often leads to increased overall consumption. They argue that AI’s efficiency will result in a proliferation of computing demands, swelling energy consumption and creating unforeseen economic disruptions. Yet this paradox, rather than being a cautionary tale, is actually the very reason AI will dramatically improve human existence. Technological advances do not merely make things cheaper; they open new frontiers of productivity, giving rise to new industries, expanding wealth and elevating human potential. AI, rather than being a zero-sum game of efficiency, is the engine of progress itself.

AI’s Multiplier Effect on Productivity

Productivity has always been the foundation of human progress. From the Industrial Revolution to the advent of the internet, every breakthrough has increased the efficiency of labor, allowing individuals and societies to achieve more with less. AI is not merely an incremental improvement but an exponential leap in efficiency.

By automating routine and repetitive tasks, AI liberates human minds for higher-order thinking. In business, AI-driven analytics streamline operations, allowing firms to allocate resources more effectively, innovate faster and reduce waste. In medicine, AI-powered diagnostics enable doctors to detect diseases earlier and with greater precision, improving patient outcomes and reducing the strain on healthcare systems. In research, AI accelerates discoveries in fields ranging from biotechnology to astrophysics, making possible what would have once taken decades.

Rather than displacing human labor in a zero-sum equation, AI expands the scope of what is possible. Just as the mechanization of agriculture freed up workers to move into manufacturing, AI will enable a shift toward more creative, intellectually rewarding and high-value work. The efficiency gains of AI are not about replacing jobs but enhancing them—allowing human potential to flourish in ways previously unimaginable.

AI and the Future of Medicine

One of AI’s most transformative applications lies in medicine, where it has the potential to revolutionize drug discovery. Traditional pharmaceutical development is a slow, costly process, often taking over a decade to bring a new drug to market. AI, however, is changing the game.

Advanced AI models can analyze vast datasets, predict molecular interactions and identify promising drug candidates with unprecedented speed. Researchers estimate that AI-driven drug discovery could be 1,000 times faster than current methods, dramatically accelerating the development of treatments for diseases ranging from cancer to neurodegenerative disorders.

Moreover, AI-powered precision medicine can tailor treatments to individual genetic profiles, optimizing efficacy and minimizing side effects. This means not just faster drug development but smarter, more targeted therapies that improve patient outcomes across the board. In the next few years, AI could unlock cures for diseases previously thought incurable, pushing the boundaries of medical science to new frontiers.

AI as Humanity’s Co-Pilot

Critics fear that AI will diminish human creativity, reducing artistic and intellectual pursuits to algorithmically generated outputs. In reality, AI is not a replacement for creativity but an accelerant. It provides artists, writers and musicians with powerful tools to push the boundaries of their craft.

Consider AI’s role in design and engineering. With AI-generated models, architects can construct smarter, more sustainable buildings. Musicians can compose symphonies with AI-assisted harmonization, blending human ingenuity with computational precision. Writers can use AI as a brainstorming partner, generating novel ideas that would not have emerged in isolation.

Even in the most human of pursuits—storytelling—AI serves as an augmentation rather than a replacement. Just as photography did not eliminate painting but expanded artistic possibilities, AI will elevate creative expression, allowing for richer, more dynamic and more immersive artistic experiences. AI will be humanity’s co-pilot, not its substitute.

The DeepSeek R1 Revolution

AI is once again dominating headlines, this time due to the release of DeepSeek R1—a free and open-source large language model that rivals the best proprietary AI systems on the market. This watershed moment has removed the barriers to access that previously existed with AI, allowing innovators, researchers and businesses worldwide to integrate cutting-edge intelligence into their operations without cost constraints.

The significance of DeepSeek R1 cannot be overstated. By democratizing access to high-level AI, it is accelerating the adoption of AI-driven solutions at an unprecedented rate. The release of such a powerful open-source model is also placing immense pressure on leading AI firms such as OpenAI, xAI and Anthropic to innovate even faster, lest they be outpaced by a global wave of independent developers leveraging freely available AI capabilities.

This competition will lead to an explosion of new AI applications, fueling a rapid cycle of advancement that will drive productivity, increase access to intelligence and ultimately reshape industries at a breakneck pace. The age of AI acceleration has arrived, and its impact will be felt across every sector of human endeavor.

Jevons Was Right—And That’s a Good Thing

Jevons Paradox teaches us that efficiency does not necessarily lead to conservation—it leads to expansion. The more efficient energy production became, the more industry grew; the more accessible computing power became, the more the digital economy flourished. AI, by making information processing and automation vastly more efficient, will not lead to stagnation but to explosive growth in every sector.

This is not a flaw—it is the very mechanism of human progress. By making intelligence itself more scalable, AI will allow humanity to achieve feats once thought impossible. From curing diseases to exploring distant planets, AI will be the multiplier that accelerates every human endeavor.

Embracing AI as Humanity’s Greatest Ally

The fear of AI is rooted in a fundamental misunderstanding of history and progress. Every great leap in technology—from the steam engine to electricity to the internet—was met with trepidation, only for humanity to emerge wealthier, more creative and more prosperous. AI is no different.

Rather than fearing AI, we should embrace its potential to elevate civilization to new heights. It will not displace human purpose but refine it, not eliminate human creativity but amplify it. AI is not the end of human agency—it is the dawn of a new era in which intelligence itself becomes the most abundant resource on Earth. The only real question is whether we will seize this opportunity or let fear obscure the boundless possibilities before us.

Technology is a two-edged sword; on one edge are the benefits of technology, and on the opposite edge is the “dark side” technology. We have yet to tame the technologies we have used for the past century. In saying this, I am not necessarily bad-mouthing technology. However, what we have done is accept the benefits of technology, without looking at the “dark side.” The only thing that is “golden” about AI, is the greed for the money very few will be reaping. If we allow the government to latch onto AI, people will die as a result of unintended consequences. Computer technology changes every 6 months or less, and some of that technology is shelved to be introduced in the future; the axiom of planned obsolescence, first coined by General Motors in 1939, to keep people coming back for the latest and greatest, year after year, and AI will be no different. It was Tucker who produced an advanced automobile that had everything in it that was slatted by the “Big Three,” to be introduced in subsequent years, and that is the reason the “Big Three” put Tucker and his automobile out of business. Tucker did not steal their ideas, no, those ideas were a natural progression that Tucker put into his automobiles the first year he went into production. Look at the the technology of the Internet, and all the problems that come with it, why? Because of one word… greed. Greed is humanity’s greatest sin. Any sin always comes with a payment, which will be deemed as “unintended consequences.” In the hands of the government, AI will produce dead bodies, which will be ignored as a coincidence. There are very few things that happen in this life that happen to be a coincidence, so do not take this lightly. There are truths out there about our technology that are being suppressed because of the “dark side” of those technologies. I am sure I am one of the few who are putting out this warning. Go ahead, and embrace AI as the savior of the world, and watch how many more people will expire because of it. By the way, this “dark side” I am espousing, is applauded by the United Nations, why? Because part of their “Agenda 2030” is for the depopulation of the planet.

I have to disagree here a little. We do not need MORE drugs to improve life in the future, we need fewer artificial cures and foods. Chemicals of all stripes are slowly killing the populations in the more advanced nations at alarming rates. Try prevention instead of “cures” and we will all be better off. But don’t thank me for this pearl of wisdom… just send money. : )

Forget about AI for medicine, unless you are talking about diagnostic equipment. Hippocrates stated; “Food is medicine,” which simply means nutrition is everything that pertains to all the correct ingredients that are necessary for optimum health, drugs notwithstanding. There are two overt ways to die, 1) by nature or 2) by the government. The government has many ways for people who have the right to live, to expire, through the ignorance espoused by government-sponsored education institutions (public schools). We have not even addressed that those who serve in the military are “pawns in the game,” for the greedy “Military-Industrial complex.” I wonder if we noticed that every generation in the United States, another war rears its ugly head and feeds the ever-hungry “Military-Industrial Complex.” Nobody who gains either power, money, or both is going to surrender it easily, and the same does not care how many people die for their gain greed. I am going to tell you a big secret that will never reach our public schools; we can end nearly all wars and healthcare costs by taking all the profit out of it. There is one basic problem with technology, which is the cost. Computer technology has made things more efficient, but at what cost? Look at all the inherent problems with computer technology that cost money, if we do not protect ourselves from greedy evil-doers. As long as money can be made, the evil-doers will find a way to do it, and with computer technology can remain anonymous. BC, before computers, we had classified ads in the backs of magazines, for which many, or perhaps most of them, were rife with high degrees of fraud. If one is not careful, the Internet is a “den of robbers.” AI is going to magnify that if we allow it, and we will, because the oligarchs are the ones who make the greatest gains, and those who are not computer-savvy will suffer.

    Craig Varga

My concern is not that AI won’t enhance creativity etc., but that it will do so far too well. In past technology developments human labor was replaced with machine labor and the argument was always that it freed us humans to handle the more intellectual pursuits. If AI gets to the point that it can be as creative as us, what is left for us? The argument that it will allow greater creative by artists and architects for example, while likely true at first, becomes problematic when the AI is better, faster and cheaper than the human counterpart. Then there’s no longer any need for the human. What do we do for our next trick when the machines can do everything, we can do but better and cheaper? For a time, at least until the AIs design replacements, we’ll still need to do construction and repairs, but the majority of intellectual pursuits may go the way of the dodo.
