Fox News won’t air continuous live coverage of tonight’s first hearing of the January 6th committee’s investigation of the attack on the U.S. Capitol.
The hearing will air on Fox Business Network instead, with anchors Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum providing commentary.
According to The New York Times, Democrats openly hope to use the primetime coverage to change their midterm fortunes:
With their control of Congress hanging in the balance, Democrats plan to use made-for-television moments and a carefully choreographed rollout of revelations over the course of six hearings…to persuade voters that the coming midterm elections are a chance to hold Republicans accountable for it.
However, unlike most television news channels, Fox News is sticking with its primetime lineup of Tucker Carlson, Sean Hannity and Laura Ingraham.
In a press release, Fox News Media said Carlson, Hannity and Ingraham “will cover the hearings as news warrants.”
After today’s hearings end at 11 p.m., Fox News’ chief legal correspondent Shannon Bream will host a two-hour recap of the proceedings with Baier and MacCallum on Fox News.
The development means Greg Gutfeld’s late-night show will be preempted.
While some Democrats are optimistic that the committee, which has enlisted the help of a former ABC News executive to make their case, will turn voter focus away from issues like rising inflation, others are skeptical, as the Daily Caller explains:
“If I were a member of the 1/6 committee, stories like these, casting the hearings as a political cudgel, would make me very unhappy,” Axelrod said.
“Let facts speak for themselves,” he added.
Democrats have hired former ABC News president James Goldston to produce the hearings. Goldston was president of ABC when the network squashed the story of Jeffrey Epstein accuser Virginia Roberts Giuffre back in 2015 [emphasis added].

Today, I heard a “journalist” on NBC ranting about “getting to the bottom of the deadly Jan 6 insurrection.” Then, they repeated the false claim that Trump supporters were just following his orders when they killed members of the Capitol Police.
