The House select committee investigating the U.S. Capitol riot announced that it would hold a surprise hearing tomorrow afternoon.
According to an official statement, the hearing will “present recently obtained evidence and receive witness testimony.”
The statement did not reveal details about what member Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) called “a deluge of new evidence” nor name the witness scheduled to testify.

CNBC further reports:
Monday’s announcement came days after the committee’s fifth public hearing, which focused on how former President Donald Trump pressured the Department of Justice to help him overturn his loss to President Joe Biden in the 2020 election.
The committee previously planned to hold seven hearings on the initial findings from its nearly yearlong investigation into Jan. 6, 2021, when a violent pro-Trump mob stormed the U.S. Capitol and sent members of Congress fleeing for safety.

The bipartisan committee has put Trump at the center of what it calls a coordinated multi-pronged conspiracy to overturn the 2020 election results that directly led to the violence at the Capitol on Jan. 6.
While Trump vehemently denies any wrongdoing, Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) is telling the press that the committee’s final hearings will demonstrate how Trump incited his supporters before the riot and responded far too slowly after violence erupted. The panel had initially planned to postpone its remaining hearings until mid-July.
