Tyler Boebert, the 20-year-old son of U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) and her ex-husband, Jayson, has been cited by Windsor, Colorado, police for misdemeanor child abuse.
The charge stems from a July 11 incident in which Tyler’s two-year-old son allegedly wandered out of the home unsupervised.
The citation accuses Tyler of criminal negligence. Authorities say the child was not injured, emphasizing that the charge does not involve physical abuse but instead a failure to supervise.
In a public statement, Rep. Boebert attributed the situation to a “miscommunication on monitoring my young grandson,” and emphasized that no harm was done. She described the incident as isolated, saying “we have addressed it as a family,” and noted that they have met with child protective services.

The younger Boebert’s legal record is already extensive. In February 2024, he was arrested on 22 charges, including multiple felonies for identity theft and conspiracy. He reached a plea deal, receiving a two-year deferred judgment and probation.
According to a lawsuit, one victim — a 33-year-old woman who had been saving for brain surgery — lost everything in the robbery.
Another lawsuit accused Tyler of filming a sex tape with a female partner and passing it to someone else in the theft ring.
In 2022, law enforcement cited the congresswoman’s son for reckless driving after he flipped his father’s SUV into a creek bed. The crash left a passenger in the hospital with multiple concussions and severe lacerations. That case also ended in a plea deal.
Tyler is scheduled to appear in Weld County court on Sept. 8 to answer the child abuse charge. It’s not yet clear whether the new charge could jeopardize his probation or lead to the revocation of his deferred judgment.
As the New York Post reports, the unfortunate incident adds to an ongoing series of legal issues surrounding the Boebert family:
In January 2024, Tyler called the police and said his father was assaulting him at their home.
Jayson Boebert was arrested after he allegedly “pushed Tyler to the ground and pushed his thumb into his mouth,” according to a Garfield County arrest affidavit.
At the time of the most recent incident, Tyler was serving a 24-month probation after pleading guilty to attempting to commit identity theft in October 2024.
