FBI Approves Request To Locate Fleeing Texas Democrats

Senator John Cornyn (R–TX) revealed that the FBI has agreed to help law enforcement locate and potentially arrest Texas Democratic lawmakers who fled the state to deny quorum and block a controversial redistricting vote. Cornyn sent a formal request to FBI Director Kash Patel, emphasizing the agency’s authority to assist when individuals cross state lines in an apparent effort to avoid legal obligations.

As The Hill reports:

“I am proud to announce that Director Kash Patel has approved my request for the FBI to assist state and local law enforcement in locating runaway Texas House Democrats,” Cornyn said in a statement Thursday morning.

“I thank President Trump and Director Patel for supporting and swiftly acting on my call for thr federal government to hold these supposed lawmakers accountable for fleeing Texas,” Cornyn said.

Cornyn posted on social platform X earlier Thursday that Patel had “responded to my request to assist state & local law enforcement locate the runaway Texas House Democrats and investigate potential offenses.”

“Thank you Director Patel for your swift response & action!” Cornyn posted.

In a letter dated August 5, Sen. John Cornyn labeled the absent legislators as “potential lawbreakers,” warning that accepting funds to evade legislative duties could constitute bribery or corruption.

The FBI’s involvement marks a notable escalation in the state-led standoff over redistricting. Cornyn defended the move as lawful cooperation, emphasizing that the lawmakers had crossed into multiple states — including some where Democratic governors publicly announced they would not honor Texas’ extradition requests.

while these texan legislatures are AWOL from their jobs and not doing it, they should not be paid, all vounchers for their travel, lodging, food, and entertainment should be denied, any one who picks up their expenses or acceptance of expenses should be considered a bribe and illegal subjecting anyone who accepts such a payment to criminal prosecution under the laws of Texas, and be removed from office by the Texas State Govenor.
