After Jimmy Kimmel Live! was suspended (following Kimmel’s comments about Charlie Kirk’s death and MAGA politics), Kennedy warned that what’s happening now could easily be flipped later. Her concern? The same regulatory threats recently aimed at ABC/Disney could be used against Fox News — or any other outlet — tomorrow, depending on who’s in charge.
The core issue isn’t whether Kimmel was right or wrong. (His monologue blamed MAGA figures for shifting the narrative around Charlie Kirk’s murder, contradicting prosecutors who said the suspect had far-left ties.) What matters is how the fallout is playing out: FCC Chair Brendan Carr hinted at possible consequences for networks that air content not deemed in the “public interest.” That’s a vague line with dangerous implications.
Critics say this edges into government overreach — using regulatory muscle (like FCC licensing or advertiser pressure) to control speech. Even if you agree with the outrage now, the precedent is the problem. Because what’s considered “unacceptable” or “misleading” can change overnight when political power flips.
Kennedy’s point is blunt: today it’s ABC. Next time it could be Fox. Nobody’s immune when government threats are on the table.
Another danger? Self-censorship. Networks and hosts may start pulling punches — not because they’re wrong, but because they fear the blowback. That’s not accountability; that’s fear. On another forum (that doesn’t allow comments) his remarks were labelled as “controversial” – NOPE they were flat out lies, whether he did that intentionally or out of stupidity remains to be seen. What should likely occur is a massive number civil lawsuits against him for slander.
Fox bills itself as “fair and balanced”, not as a GOP or Trump house organ.
So you have a new way to make money, by being a con artist. “read the replies, oh by the way it is going to cost you because we put a hook in you.
Bottom line is if we the people can’t understand or recognize that during an election cycle, one side is ALWAYS worse than the other when it comes to truth, then I see Kennedy’s point. If we hand the left the electoral beating they’ve now earned, for the next several years, maybe they’ll get the point that this country has had enough of the Marxist encroachment into everyday life.
