Trying hard to turn the narrative away from leftist violence and the murder of free speech advocate Charlie Kirk by a left-wing kook, the entire left suddenly, and hypocritically, became free speech advocates with Jimmy Kimmel as their martyr.
While downplaying or ignoring the fact that murdering an activist over his speech is far worse than suspending a clown from a $16 million corporate media job, the Democrat machine began spinning recent events and comments by President Trump and his officials into their new “greatest threat to democracy” — Trump-led censorship against critics.
While Kimmel was suspended for various reasons, low ratings, complaints from affiliates, and his blatant lie about the Kirk killer being MAGA, Trump’s FCC chair Brendan Carr did make unwelcome comments which came across as bullying pressure against Kimmel’s employer ABC and Disney.
Critics on both the left and right argue that Trump and Carr should be condemned for openly pressuring the media to silence critics.
However, Democrats and the left in general have been engaging in massive and insidious government-led censorship for years against conservatives. Cancel culture was created by leftists agitating to deplatform and censor conservatives, and this censorship exploded during COVID and Joe Biden’s term in office.
I was permanently banned by LinkedIn in 2022 for my posts on Hunter Biden’s laptop, Biden family corruption, the COVID lab leak theory, mass murders by communist China, and other topics, later proven to be factual and true. Some of my posts had over half a million views.
We should all recall that Elon Musk bought Twitter in 2022 primarily because of its extreme censorship of conservatives on that platform. We have since seen reams of evidence of how Twitter coerced and canceled conservatives prior to Musk.
But we should also remember how the Biden White House engaged in direct censorship of Americans via major Big Tech platforms, and even directly by government agencies themselves.
As The Wall Street Journal reminds us:
A 2023 Judiciary Committee staff report noted that the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) had also “facilitated the censorship of Americans directly and through third-party intermediaries.” By 2020 CISA was flagging posts for “disinformation.” After a lawsuit was filed, the report notes, the content moderation was transferred to a CISA-funded nonprofit to evade the federal censorship rap.
Later, in August 2024, the paper notes, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg wrote to Chairman Jim Jordan and the Judiciary Committee, admitting that the Biden Administration “repeatedly pressured” Facebook to shut down “certain COVID-19 content including humor and satire.”
Zuckerberg also told Joe Rogan on his podcast that Biden officials “would call up our team and, like, scream at them and curse” to get them to take down information.
And now Google finally admits the same Biden pressure on them to censor critics. The Journal continues:
In a letter to House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan, a lawyer for Google parent Alphabet disclosed that senior Biden Administration officials “conducted repeated and sustained outreach to Alphabet and pressed the company regarding certain user generated content related to the COVID-19 pandemic that did not violate its policies.”
Administration officials, including Joe Biden, “created a political atmosphere that sought to influence the actions of platforms based on their concerns regarding misinformation,” the letter said. Alphabet added, in something of a mea not-so-maxima culpa, that “it is unacceptable and wrong when any government, including the Biden administration, attempts to dictate how the company moderates content.”
Pressuring private social-media companies to crack down on views the government doesn’t like is much like the pass-through censorship that shut down Jimmy Kimmel. The left’s conviction that Covid “science” about preventive measures was an inviolable truth doesn’t excuse the coercion.
Biden’s coercive arm-twisting was more insidious though because it was hidden from the public.
As part of Google’s admission that it censored content under pressure from the Biden White House, YouTube owned by Google will now allow banned YouTube accounts to be reinstated this week.
Fox news reported that the “shift could affect both average users and more high-profile figures like FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino, White House counterterrorism chief Sebastian Gorka and “War Room” podcast host Steve Bannon, all of whom were permanently banned in recent years for COVID-19 or election-related content.”
So, considering all the massive censorship conducted by Democrat Joe Biden over four years, and the rampant censorship by the left before that, maybe leftist Democrats crying a river over Jimmy Kimmel and screaming about Trump’s threat to free speech, should just look in the mirror, and shut up… voluntarily of course.
