The once-vaunted partnership between Barack Obama and Joe Biden — a political alliance Democrats long marketed as a model of loyalty and respect — has reportedly fractured beyond repair. According to veteran ABC reporter Jonathan Karl, the relationship between the former presidents has become so strained that the two pointedly ignored each other when they appeared in the same Washington, D.C., restaurant just weeks ago.
Karl, speaking on Katie Couric’s podcast while promoting his new book Retribution, said both men were spotted dining at Café Milano last month — close enough that their security teams had to coordinate movements. Yet the two never acknowledged each other.
“They didn’t interact at all?” Couric asked in disbelief. Karl confirmed, “If they had wanted to see each other, they absolutely would have.”
Biden World Blames Obama for the “Push-Out” After Debate Disaster
According to Karl, the bitterness stems from Biden’s disastrous 2024 debate performance against Donald Trump — the moment that triggered a full-scale Democratic panic and a behind-the-scenes effort to pull Biden off the ticket.
And in Biden’s circle, Karl says, one figure is seen as the architect of that pressure: Barack Obama.
“Biden and the people around him very much blame Barack Obama for the effort to push Biden out of the campaign,” Karl said.
After Democrats ultimately replaced Biden with Kamala Harris as the nominee, Biden reportedly phoned allies to solidify support for his vice president. But he did not call Obama — the president who made Biden his VP and helped lift him into the Oval Office.
Karl said he was “astounded” to learn that Obama eventually called Biden — and Biden refused to take the call.
“They did not speak for weeks,” Karl noted.
Within days of Biden exiting the race, Obama released a polished statement proclaiming that Harris had the “vision, the character, and the strength” needed for the moment.
The tension also revived long-standing rumors that Obama was the real influence behind the scenes during the Biden presidency, claims that have circulated since early in Biden’s term.
The Fundraiser Freeze Fiasco Resurfaces
The reported estrangement follows another moment that fueled speculation about Obama’s dominance over Biden: the widely circulated clip from July in which Biden appeared to freeze onstage during a star-studded fundraiser until Obama gently guided him away.
Although some attendees disputed the “freezing” characterization — and the Associated Press ran a fact-check with pushback from Biden aides — the optics were undeniable: Obama, confident and composed, escorting a visibly struggling Biden as cameras rolled.
The image became a symbol of Biden’s reliance on his former boss — something Biden insiders reportedly resent.
A Partnership That Once Defined the Democratic Brand Is Now in Tatters
For years, Democrats sold the Obama–Biden relationship as an American political bromance: the thoughtful professor-president and the loyal, working-class deputy who always had his back. Biden embraced the identity so strongly that he referred to himself as “Barack’s guy” during his 2020 run.
But Karl’s reporting suggests that era is long gone.
Now the two men can’t even share a restaurant.
The deterioration of their relationship — at the very moment Democrats face internal turmoil, ideological fractures, and a resurgent Donald Trump — underscores the deepening cracks within.
And if the two most important Democrats of the last 15 years can’t stand to speak to each other, the rest of the party may find unity even harder to come by.

Well who would be surprised… Biden always wanted to be Obamas buttboy… who would not have distanced themselves from diaper Joe ? Considering, both ruined America , causing hate and divide… the only difference being Obama actually deported illegals. They both will go down in history as two of the worst, right next to Carter (seems to be a theme here)… just for different reasons.
