The House of Representatives on Wednesday approved a war powers resolution aimed at ending unauthorized U.S. military involvement in Iran, marking the most significant congressional challenge yet to President Donald Trump’s handling of the conflict.

The measure, sponsored by Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-N.Y.) invokes the 1973 War Powers Resolution and would require the administration to obtain explicit authorization from Congress before continuing hostilities against Iran, except in cases involving an imminent threat to the United States. The vote followed months of growing bipartisan concern over a conflict that began in.

PAUL’S DEFENSE BRIEF (PDB) – The strategic and military situation with China seems to be intensifying. Chief of Naval Operations tells sailors in Guam to be ready for conflict now, calling the Navy to heighten its readiness capabilities and be able to fully surge and respond at any moment during an all-hands call.

Air Force practices operating from cut-off bases in fierce future war. In war against China or other advanced enemy, Air Force units may have to keep operating for days, weeks, or longer, while cut off from reinforcements, resupply or even communications.

Army set up a counter-disinformation unit in Pacific. It is planning a long-term strategy dealing with disinformation. A new unit, part of Army Pacific, is tasked with taking on information warfare from enemies, with the goal of rapidly responding and debunking influence campaigns in the region.

Allies are gearing up, too. Plan to station surface-to-air missiles on Japanese island within sight of Taiwan is “steadily progressing,” says Japan’s defense minister.

FOR YOUR EYES ONLY – Here’s a roundup of today’s other top defense news from conservative national security expert PAUL CRESPO.

THE PDB – Not the President’s Daily Briefing, but almost as good – PAUL’S DEFENSE BRIEF:

NATIONAL SECURITY

Undersea domain growing contested, as it was during Cold War. Unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs) promise to enhance combat reach and responsiveness of existing U.S. nuclear submarines. They remain, however, a complementary capability to manned nuke subs.

The case for U.S.-India munitions partnership. Drones may grab headlines, but artillery shells, ammunition rounds, and propellants sustain the fight. Without the ability to feed weapon systems for weeks or months, even most advanced unmanned systems are little more than scouts.

HOMELAND DEFENSE

Star Wars back in vogue with Trump’s order to establish the “Golden Dome” missile defense shield. It will feature an ambitious space-based boost-phase interceptor program in addition to terrestrial systems. But the obstacles that plagued its discontinued predecessor, “Brilliant Pebble,” under the Strategic Defense Initiative, remain unaddressed.

HOMELAND SECURITY

With federal workers’ uncertainty, Army warns foreign spies are posing as consulting firms, think tanks, corporate recruiters, and more to exploit U.S. soldiers, Army civilians, and family members.

DEFENSE POLITICS

Pentagon investigating Democrat Sen. Mark Kelly of Arizona over breaches of military law after former Navy pilot joined handful of other Dem lawmakers in video that called for troops to defy “illegal orders,” indirectly aimed at President Trump.

VENEZUELA THREAT

Nation’s top military officer is visiting U.S. troops in Puerto Rico and on a Navy warship in Caribbean where U.S. has amassed large fleet of warships and has been attacking drug-smuggling boats.

Pressure on Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro continues to ratchet up with cartel he leads designated a foreign terrorist organization (FTO), a move that increases U.S. military options in the region.

B-52 bomber from Minot Air Force Base, Mont., flew over Caribbean Sea and near Venezuela for second time in five days.

US POWER OVERSEAS

100th Somalia strike of year shows AFRICOM mission against Islamic militants in east Africa now represents one of America’s military’s most aggressive operations worldwide, outpacing even U.S. action in Caribbean.

More than 1,300 military personnel from U.S., Qatar, Italy, UK, Turkey and France participated in Exercise Ferocious Falcon 6, a biennial, Qatar-hosted multinational joint exercise.

These are approximate positions of Navy’s deployed carrier strike groups and amphibious ready groups throughout world as of Nov. 24, 2025.

CHINA THREAT

China’s J-36 tailless stealth jet’s new two-dimensional thrust vectoring nozzles seen from behind. New images of the Chengdu Aircraft Corporation’s second ‘J-36’ heavy tactical jet airframe now features significant changes over the first.

To China’s war planners, AI is just another thing to deceive. A mask of darkness had fallen over the training grounds when Blue Force unleashed withering strike to wipe out Red Force artillery. Plumes rose from “destroyed” batteries as the seemingly successful fire plan took out its targets. But it had all been a trap.

Navy has deployed salvage ship to South China Sea to attempt to raise sunken fighter and helicopter that crashed off the USS Nimitz in back-to-back incidents in October.

RUSSIA THREAT

U.S., Ukraine report ‘meaningful progress’ to end war with Russia, hailing constructive talks in Geneva which yielded an “updated and refined” framework to potentially end the war.

A 15-Point plan to get to a Ukrainian Russian peace settlement to replace Trump’s 28-point peace plan, which caused quite a stir in Kyiv, in the capitals of our European allies, and among U.S. legislators, including many Senate Republicans who find the document offensive.

As Ukraine weighs U.S.-imposed peace deal deemed unfavorable to Kyiv, Russia will challenge NATO again soon after weapons go silent, experts warn.

Russia launched wave of attacks on Ukraine in overnight strikes that hit city buildings and energy infrastructure, while Ukraine attacked southern Russia.

Facing lack of Russian recruits, Moscow is accused of using deception and bribery to sign up foreigners to fight in Ukraine.

European countries should have initial ‘drone wall’ architecture mapped out within two months, but defense officials contend that right now, detection is name of the game.

Army demo shows it’s getting closer to large-scale counter drone effort. In field near Baltic Sea, U.S. soldiers used net-shooting hunter drones, specially outfitted 557 rifles, and .50-caliber machine guns to drop dozens of drones, large and small.

MIDDLE EAST THREATS

UN authorization of an international administration and stabilization force for Gaza marks historic endorsement of U.S.-led plan to reinforce the ceasefire and rebuild the territory after two years of conflict. But volatility on the ground, alongside lack of clarity over how to overhaul political and security reality in Gaza, threatens to turn this laudable effort into yet another untenable plan.

U.S.- Israel-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, set up to distribute aid to Gaza as alternative to UN but which Palestinians said endangered the lives of civilians as they tried to get food, is shutting down.

SPACE THREATS

China launches TJS-21 towards Molniya orbit, lofts trio of Shijian-30 spacecraft, adding new spacecraft to its two opaque satellite series.

Space Force plans to release solicitation for space-based interceptors (SBIs) able to conduct kinetic midcourse missile defense.

Space Force needs to invest more resources in cutting-edge technologies—including launch and simulation capabilities—to maintain upper hand over China in space.

NORTH KOREA THREAT

An MQ-9 Reaper drone belonging to U.S. Air Force crashed off coast of South Korea.

South Korea has long been model supporter of global non-proliferation regime, trusting U.S. “nuclear umbrella.” But strategic environment around Seoul has changed dramatically. North Korea now boasts larger, more sophisticated nuclear and missile arsenal as confidence in U.S. extended deterrence has eroded.

INTERNATIONAL SECURITY

Sudan’s RSF, which has been fighting Sudan’s regular army since April 2023, said it was declaring a ceasefire “in response to international efforts, including the initiative of President Trump and Quad mediators.”
