Rap superstar Nicki Minaj went on a tirade against California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D), accusing him of misaligned priorities and declaring that his political future is over.
Minaj made the remarks in multiple posts on X, reacting to comments Newsom made about “wanting to see transgender children.” In one post, the “Super Bass” singer shared an image of the Chucky character from the Child’s Play film franchise and told the governor, “It’s the end of the road for you.”
“Oh Gavvy pooh, it only gets worse from here for you, buddy. It’s the end of the road for you, my love,” Minaj wrote. She followed up by advising Newsom to step away from politics, telling him to “get on the nearest jet ski” and enjoy life rather than pursue a race “that you will not win.”
Minaj continued her criticism in subsequent posts, mocking Newsom’s public image and political prospects. She referred to him as “the cute boy who got everything handed to him” and compared him unfavorably to actor Tom Cruise, saying his “next mission IS impossible.”
In a third post, Minaj elaborated on her objections, asserting that Newsom was positioning himself politically around transgender children. “Imagine being the guy running on wanting to see trans kids,” she wrote, adding that, in her view, “normal adults” want children to be “healthy, safe, happy.” She concluded the post with, “The Gav Nots. GavOUT. Send in the next guy, I’m bored.”
Vice President JD Vance also weighed in on the exchange, responding to one of Minaj’s posts with the remark, “Nicki > Cardi.” The comment came in response to Minaj’s own post that read, “Vance > Rants.”
Minaj’s comments followed a recent appearance by Newsom on The Ezra Klein Show, where he told New York Times columnist Ezra Klein that he wants “to see trans kids” and claimed that there is “no government that’s done more pro-trans legislation.”
In 2023, Newsom signed legislation making California the first sanctuary state for transgender-identifying children who are seeking drugs and surgeries related to gender transition. Earlier this year, however, the governor acknowledged concerns over fairness in athletics, stating that men participating in women’s sports is “deeply unfair.”
When asked by Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk whether he would take the position of “no men in female sports,” Newsom replied, “I think it’s an issue of fairness, I completely agree with you on that.”
The exchange between Minaj and Newsom adds to the growing public debate surrounding transgender policies as they relate to children, and the political future of the California governor.
