A senior Russian general was killed Monday after a bomb detonated beneath his car in southern Moscow, a brazen assassination that underscores growing security concerns inside Russia as the war with Ukraine drags on.
Authorities said Lt. Gen. Fanil Sarvarov, 56, died from his injuries after the early-morning blast, which occurred around 6:55 a.m. as he was leaving a parking area on Yaseneva Street.
Investigators said the device was planted under the vehicle. Video released by Russian authorities showed the car badly damaged, with officials saying blood was visible inside.

The Investigative Committee said it is exploring multiple theories, including possible involvement by Ukrainian intelligence. Kyiv has not commented publicly.
Sarvarov led the Operational Training Directorate of the General Staff, placing him among the senior ranks responsible for Russia’s military readiness.
His killing marks at least the third assassination of a high-ranking Russian general by bombing in about a year. Russian officials have blamed Ukraine for similar attacks in the past, though evidence has rarely been made public.
As Fox News reports, fighting continues to escalate even as talks continue to end Europe’s deadliest war since 1945:
The Monday bombing comes as Ukraine, Russia and the U.S. remain in peace talks. Russian officials said they were proceeding “constructively” on Sunday, even as missiles rained down on Ukraine’s port city of Odesa.

Putin also noted on Friday that the nation’s “troops are advancing,” and expressed confidence that Russia would achieve its goals by military force if Ukraine does not accept its peace terms.

“The goals of the special military operation will undoubtedly be achieved. We would prefer to accomplish this and address the root causes of the conflict through diplomatic means,” he said.
The Kremlin said President Vladimir Putin was immediately briefed after the latest assassination, as investigators continue to gather evidence, interview witnesses, and analyze security camera footage.
