STANLEY, N.C. — A major fire broke out late Sunday evening at a home in Stanley that is connected to NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin, killing one person and severely injuring another, according to early reports from local officials.
The fire drew a large, multi-department response and burned for more than two hours before crews were able to bring it under control.
The residence is owned by a real estate company associated with Hamlin and is believed to have been the home of his parents. The property is located in a rural area of Gaston County, which complicates firefighting efforts.
Officials have not yet released the names of the victims or clarified their relationship to Hamlin.
Fire crews faced significant obstacles due to the home’s remote location and the absence of nearby fire hydrants. Water had to be trucked in, slowing initial suppression efforts.
Dozens of first responders from multiple departments worked the scene as flames quickly spread through the structure.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Authorities said additional details will be released once next-of-kin notifications are completed and investigators have a clearer picture of what sparked the blaze.
Hamlin, 45, is a veteran NASCAR Cup Series driver and a co-owner of 23XI Racing. He finished second in the 2025 Cup Series championship and remains one of the sport’s most recognizable figures.
