Left-wing political streamer Hasan Piker faces backlash today after comments made during an online appearance, where he discussed how inexpensive commercial drones could be turned into explosive devices and argued that it was more effective than suicide bombing.
Piker — a popular Twitch streamer and online political commentator with millions of followers — made the comments while discussing how modern warfare is increasingly dependent on low-cost drone technology.
During the discussion, Piker argued that consumer drones costing just a few hundred dollars can be adapted for combat, citing examples from recent conflicts where commercially available technology has been modified for battlefield use.
Critics on the political right seized the comments, accusing the streamer of irresponsibly explaining how drones could be weaponized and calling for authorities to investigate. Some commentators even urged the FBI to examine the remarks, as clips circulated widely across social media platforms.

Viral Clip Fuels Backlash
The controversy ignited after a brief clip of Piker’s comments circulated online, leading to criticism from conservative commentators and political figures who claimed the discussion crossed a dangerous line.
As Mediaite reports, opponents argue Piker could possibly, even unintentionally, encourage copycat actions or share information that might be misused:
New York City Council Member Vickie Paladino added, “Hasan Piker is telling his followers to make suicide drones. Hasan also said that America deserved 9/11 and has hosted Houthi terrorists on his stream. Anyway, here are a couple of pictures of our mayor and a current city councilman hanging out with him recently.”
Piker replied to Paladino, writing, “be on the lookout for a defamation suit councilwoman!”

Although some were quick to defend Piker, noting he was offering a suggestion for how the Taliban should fight Pakistan, not his audience at large.
Im no fan of Hasan, but this is hilariously bad faith.

in their view, this is Hasan giving advice to the talibans suicide bombers. and then the talibans goes like, "oh yeah, good point! didn't think of that!" https://t.co/u6arFweiio
Piker Defends Comments
Other supporters of Piker argue the remarks were descriptive rather than instructional, noting that the use of commercial drones as weapons has already been widely reported by journalists and military analysts covering conflicts around the world.
Cheap drones have become an important tactical tool in recent conflicts — especially in Ukraine and the Middle East, where both government militaries and irregular groups have used modified drones to deliver explosives or perform reconnaissance missions.
A Polarizing Online Figure
Piker, known online as HasanAbi, has built one of the largest political audiences on streaming platforms, combining commentary on current events with reaction content and live discussions with viewers.
But his outspoken style has also caused repeated controversies over the years, with critics accusing him of inflammatory rhetoric.
The latest dispute highlights how comments made during livestreams or podcasts can swiftly turn into national political controversies — and possibly more — once clips spread widely online.
