A Florida woman is facing a felony charge after corrections officers allegedly discovered cocaine concealed on her body during the booking process at the Brevard County Jail.
According to authorities, 30-year-old Reagan Cox was arrested following a traffic stop on a charge of resisting an officer without violence. During the jail intake process, a body scanner detected what officers described as an anomaly.
Corrections staff then escorted Cox to a private changing room for a closer inspection.
Cocaine Allegedly Found During Intake
According to the arrest report, Cox attempted to shield her buttocks with one hand before a small baggie fell to the floor.
Investigators said the bag contained approximately 3.8 grams of cocaine.
Authorities charged Cox with introducing contraband into a detention facility, a felony under Florida law. Jail records indicate she was released on bond later the same day.
Suspect Offered Unusual Explanation
According to investigators, Cox claimed the cocaine was not intentionally concealed.
She allegedly told officers the baggie had been left inside her body during a previous intimate encounter.
Authorities nevertheless proceeded with the felony charge stemming from the alleged attempt to bring contraband into the jail.
Sheriff Publicly Mocks Explanation
Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey ridiculed Cox’s explanation in a statement posted on the sheriff’s office’s official Facebook page.
Ivey joked that Cox had attempted to smuggle the drugs in her “jail purse area, if you will,” referring to her lower body.
The sheriff is known for using social media to publicly comment on unusual arrests and criminal cases in Brevard County.
Court Appearance Ahead
Cox is expected to return to court to face both the original misdemeanor charge of resisting an officer without violence and the felony charge of introducing contraband into a detention facility.
The charges remain allegations, and Cox is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
