Report: Mitch McConnell Was Found Unconscious, Received CPR During June Medical Emergency

It is unclear if he remains in the hospital…

WASHINGTON — Senate Republican Mitch McConnell was found unconscious at his Washington residence last month and received CPR from emergency responders during what dispatch records described as a suspected cardiac arrest, according to newly disclosed emergency communications.

The incident occurred June 14 but was not publicly disclosed at the time. It came to light after emergency dispatch audio and records were obtained by news organizations, revealing that first responders were sent to McConnell’s home after receiving a report of “CPR in progress” for a patient in cardiac arrest.

Emergency Call Reveals Serious Medical Incident

According to the dispatch records, an Advanced Life Support ambulance was sent to the Kentucky Republican’s residence shortly before 9 a.m.

The emergency communications described the patient as unconscious and indicated CPR was underway before first responders arrived. McConnell’s office has not confirmed whether he suffered a heart attack or addressed the details contained in the dispatch records.

Office Previously Confirmed Hospitalization

On the day of the incident, McConnell’s office announced only that the 84-year-old senator had been admitted to a hospital and was receiving medical care.

The following day, a spokesman said McConnell remained engaged in Senate business and Kentucky matters while recovering, adding that he would miss votes during his recuperation. Senate Majority Leader John Thune also said he had spoken with McConnell and described him as “dialed in” despite his hospitalization.

Latest In Series Of Health Challenges

McConnell has experienced several health issues in recent years.

He was hospitalized earlier this year with flu-like symptoms, suffered multiple falls that resulted in injuries, and twice froze while speaking publicly in 2023, episodes that prompted widespread concern about his health. His office later said medical evaluations found no evidence of a stroke or seizure.

The longtime Kentucky senator announced previously that he will retire when his current term ends in January, concluding a Senate career that began in 1985 and included nearly two decades as Republican leader.

No Further Details Released

McConnell’s representatives have not commented on the emergency dispatch records or provided additional information about his diagnosis or current condition.

The Senate remains in recess until mid-July, and no timetable has been announced for McConnell’s return to Capitol Hill.

As of July 1, 2026, it is unclear if he remains in the hospital, as his office has not confirmed his current location.
