One of ESPN’s top NFL Draft experts is facing a long recovery after revealing he lost his left arm in a devastating car crash.
Matt Miller announced Tuesday that he was seriously injured in a crash in Missouri last week and was airlifted to Mercy Hospital, where doctors performed a life-saving amputation.
“Last week, I was involved in a serious car accident in Missouri and was airlifted to Mercy Hospital,” Miller wrote on X. “I’m deeply grateful for the exceptional care I have received, from the first responders to the doctors, nurses and medical staff. I’m incredibly fortunate to be writing this.”
Miller said he suffered “significant injuries, including multiple fractures and broken ribs.”
“I also underwent a life-saving amputation of my left arm,” he wrote. “While I have a long road ahead, I’m focused on my recovery and taking things one day at a time.”

He thanked supporters for the flood of prayers and encouragement, adding that he hopes to return to ESPN.
“I look forward to continuing my recovery and getting back to ESPN to talk football, including what should be an exciting 2027 NFL Draft class.”
According to local outlet KOAM, the crash happened June 17 in Jasper County, Missouri, when Miller’s 2023 Ford Bronco crossed the center line on Missouri Route 96 and collided with a semi-truck. The truck driver was not injured.
Additional details shared through a GoFundMe organized for Miller’s recovery said he also suffered a compound fracture of his left femur, a shattered kneecap, multiple broken ribs, and significant blood loss. Despite the severity of the crash, his head, neck, and spine escaped serious injury.
Just days after announcing the accident, Miller shared another update, revealing he underwent another major surgery to determine whether his shoulder could be reconstructed to support a future prosthetic arm.
The announcement prompted an outpouring of support across the football world. ESPN’s Adam Schefter, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, and numerous colleagues publicly wished Miller a speedy recovery, while ESPN said in a statement that its “thoughts are with Matt Miller & his loved ones” and that the network looks forward to welcoming him back when he’s ready.
