On Monday, FBI officials executed an unprecedented search warrant on former President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence, increasing speculation surrounding Trump’s ongoing legal battles. (RELATED: Trump Confirms ‘Large Group of FBI Agents’ Raided Mar-a-Lago)
The raid reportedly focused on recovering presidential records previously requested by the National Archives earlier this year. Following the National Archives’ request, the Justice Department referred the matter to the FBI, whose agents confiscated 15 boxes of materials and cracked open Trump’s safe.
Trump, who was not in Florida during the raid, slammed the search saying it showed how deeply broken America has become.
“Such an assault could only take place in broken, Third-World Countries. Sadly, America has now become one of those Countries, corrupt at a level not seen before. They even broke into my safe!” Trump said in a statement. (RELATED: Jan. 6 Committee Says It Has Enough Evidence to Indict Trump)
However, despite the obvious shock that a sitting president would allow the FBI to conduct the unannounced search on a former president who could very well become his opponent in the next election, it’s the judge who signed the warrant that deserves further scrutiny.
Florida federal magistrate Bruce Reinhart left the local U.S. attorney’s office more than a decade ago to represent employees of convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.
The New York Post reports:
Reinhart was elevated to magistrate judge in March 2018 after 10 years in private practice. That November, the Miami Herald reported that he had represented several of Epstein’s employees — including, by Reinhart’s own admission to the outlet, Epstein’s pilots; his scheduler, Sarah Kellen; and Nadia Marcinkova, who Epstein once reportedly described as his “Yugoslavian sex slave.”
According to the outlet, Reinhart resigned from the South Florida US Attorney’s Office effective on New Year’s Day 2008 and went to work for Epstein’s cohorts the following day. Epstein, who was found dead in August 2019 of an apparent suicide in the Manhattan Correctional Center while awaiting trial on federal sex-trafficking charges, had hired a stable of high-powered lawyers, including former independent counsel Kenneth Starr.
Reinhart was later named in a civil lawsuit that accused him of violating Justice Department policies by switching sides in the middle of the Epstein investigation, suggesting he had used inside information about the probe to build favor with the notorious defendant, the Herald reported in 2018.
How could this happen? Why would Attorney General Merrick Garland seek the assistance of a known Epstein associate instead of asking an Article III judge to sign the warrant? Only time will tell as it’s a matter of time until the warrant is released to the public, according to experts.
“You can seal a search warrant for a time. I’ve done that myself, sealed a search warrant for various reasons having to do with the security of the case,” Michael Tabman, former head of the FBI’s Minneapolis Field Office told Fox News. “But it will become public, as will the return, which is what they found. So, the affidavit will be laid bare.”
If you take a deeper dive into Reinhart’s past you see he has not only defended known sex offenders and pedophiles but according to the New Conservative Post also “represented former Boynton Beach police officer Michael Brown. The veteran cop last month was sentenced to six months house arrest and three years of probation after being convicted of a civil rights violation in connection with the 2014 beating of a passenger in a car that fled police.”
Numerous officials from both sides of the aisle have publicly expressed their concern about the FBI’s raid of Mar-a-Lago and what impact it could have on the January 6th panel’s investigation and the weaponization of the FBI for political gain.
Former New York Governor and known Trump critic Andrew Cuomo called for the FBI to immediately explain the raid.
In a tweet, Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin also slammed the FBI.
As have other prominent Republicans, who despite their differences, have come together behind the former president.
