The Uvalde School District suspended its entire police force today following the failure of the department to respond to the May 24 mass shooting at Robb Elementary School.
Nearly 400 officers, including the entirety of the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District police department, had arrived before the 77-minute standoff with the 18-year-old gunman ended.
By the time two off-duty Border Patrol agents breached the unlocked classroom and killed the shooter, he had murdered 19 students and two teachers.
The mass suspension was long sought after by the families of the victims.
Per Mediaite:
“The District has made the decision to suspend all activities of the Uvalde CISD Police Department for a period of time. Officers currently employed will fill other roles in the district,” a statement released by the district said in regards to the suspensions.
They also announced Lt. Miguel Hernandez and Ken Mueller were placed on administrative leave. Mueller has elected to retire, CNN reported. Hernandez was heading the department after the Robb Elementary shooting, while Meyer was the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District’s director of student services.
The district said they are “confident” student safety won’t be compromised, even with the entire force on suspension.
“The District has requested the Texas Department of Public Safety to provide additional troopers for campus and extra-curricular activities. We are confident that staff and student safety will not be compromised during this transition,” their statement reads.
Parents expressed outrage after multiple outlets revealed the Uvalde district hired a school resource officer who was already under investigation for her conduct during the shooting.
The district has since fired the ex-Texas trooper.

About time, long overdue & needed
Suspended with pay, not fired. Pensions and benefits intact. Nothing more than a wrist slap.
So basically these cowards just got a paid vacation. Wonderful!
Of course the whole episode is beyond terrible, but I question this decision. Any police or military department is built on obeying orders. If personnel were allowed to do what they personally thought was the best course of action, the entire structure would fall apart. These departments are built on discipline. I truly have no knowledge of the inner workings of what went on that day, but it seems that the officers were ordered to stand down. When receiving orders like this, your job is to obey them. You must know that you’re not privy to all the information that’s been divulged, so your job is to trust that those who are issuing orders have made the right decisions. Very obviously in this case, those in command totally blew it. They deserve whatever punishment comes their way. If those receiving orders obeyed the orders–even when it seemed to them that they should take action–they should not be held responsible.
So you are OK with these cops sitting it out while shots are being fired and children are calling 911 begging for help? You are nuts.

Justice is obviously slow in Uvalde. It took 5 months to reach that decision???
Do they have a good action plan in place? For the small town of Uvalde, TX, this is a big deal. Greg Abbott needs to step up. I know. He’s got a lot on his plate, but. This, should have NEVER happened! So many failures at so many levels.
