Incoming Congressman George Santos, R-N.Y., is already facing speculation that he’s unfit for office after being outed as a habitual liar.
Now, the Long Island representative-elect is officially under investigation for potential criminal wrongdoings that may have arisen as a result of lies about his résumé, philanthropy and even his heritage.
Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly — a Republican — said the investigation into the “stunning” fabrications was necessary on behalf of the people of New York’s 3rd Congressional District.
Per NPR:
“The residents of Nassau County and other parts of the third district must have an honest and accountable representative in Congress,” she said. “If a crime was committed in this county, we will prosecute it.”
Santos’ campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment Wednesday.
He is scheduled to be sworn in next Tuesday, when the U.S. House reconvenes. If he assumes office, he could face investigations by the House Committee on Ethics and the Justice Department.
Santos, 34, has yet to show any indication that he will step aside amid his shaky response to the growing controversy.
Earlier this week, former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard tore into the Republican while filling in on “Tucker Carlson Tonight.”
At one point, she pointedly declared, “If I were one of those in New York’s 3rd District right now, now that the election is over, and I’m finding out all of these lies that you’ve told, not just one little lie or one little embellishment — these are blatant lies — my question is, do you have no shame?”
Santos responded by answering a question he wished Gabbard had asked.
“Tulsi, I can say the same thing about the Democrats,” before adding to complete his pivot, “Look at Joe Biden. Joe Biden has been lying to the American people for 40 years. He’s the president of the United States. Democrats resoundingly support him. Do they have no shame?”
The Fox News guest host reminded Santos that her question wasn’t about Biden or the Democrats.
Santos has apologized for “embellishing” his curriculum vitae but has not fully addressed misleading claims about his heritage, as The Hill‘s Emily Brooks pointed out:
He has also come under fire for representing himself as an “American Jew” and saying that his maternal grandparents fled Europe during World War II, even though reports have emerged that those grandparents were born in Brazil before the war.

Seems to me that if we’re going to clear the swamp, we might as well start with ourselves. Otherwise, our game plan has no integrity. This doesn’t mean we can’t be aggressively working against the other party’s scum at the same time.
If Mr. Santos was a Democrat, Tulsa wouldn’t call him out. If he was a Never-Trumper Republican, Republicans wouldn’t call him out. Gee, I wonder why he’s being called out?
I don’t know why all of these politicians don’t go thru a required background check during the campaign or when they register to run instead of post-election.
While she did a good job of trying to pin him down, I just dislike her annoying, monotone voice that at the same time sounds condescending.
Are you kidding! Elizabeth Warren a US senator has declared she is Indian for years. It has been proven she is not very much Indian at all. Where is the outrage Tulsi and other? Republicans along with Democrats have been lying about Jan 6th 2020 for 2 years. Where is the outrage?

I seriously don’t see a problem with his lying. Just look at a lot of the current members of Congress. Adam Schiff lied, saying that he had proof that Trump was in cahoots with Russia. AOC lies all the time, although maybe she isn’t smart enough to realize it. Elizabeth Warren claimed she was a Native American for decades and made money off of it. Then there is all of the “campaign promises” that all of these crooks make while on the campaign trail. Just another word for lying. President Trump told the truth, tried to fulfill his promises, had the best economy and lowest unemployment rates in my lifetime and look where that got him. George Santos will fit right in with the rest of these prevaricating fornicators.
