RUSSIAN INVASION
PUTIN INVADES UKRAINE – ‘We are facing war and horror’: Ukraine vows to fight on as Russia attacks. Months of uncertainty over whether Russian President Vladimir Putin would send his forces into Ukraine were laid to rest Thursday as the Russian military launched a wide-ranging attack, casting aside international condemnation and sanctions while warning other countries that attempts to interfere would lead to “consequences you have never seen.”
Russia’s Putin announces military operation in Ukraine. In a televised address, Putin said the action comes in response to threats coming from Ukraine. He added that Russia doesn’t have a goal to occupy Ukraine. Putin said the responsibility for bloodshed lies with the Ukrainian “regime.”
Timeline: Putin attacks Ukraine – how it happened. The attack, which has been met with international condemnation, comes after Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday recognized two breakaway regions held in eastern Ukraine by pro-Russian rebels as independent states and ordered troops into the territories.
Zelensky declares martial law in Ukraine. In a televised address to the nation, President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine declared martial law, but did not say what restrictions would be in place.
18 people killed in Ukraine’s Odessa in missile attack – regional authorities. Regional authorities of Ukraine’s southern Odessa region said on Thursday that 18 people were killed in a missile attack.
NATO AND US RESPONSE
NATO to take additional deterrence measures after Russian attack – statement. “We have decided, in line with our defensive planning to protect all allies, to take additional steps to further strengthen deterrence and defense across the alliance. Our measures are and remain preventive, proportionate and non-escalatory.”
Concerns grow over miscalculations with Russia as US troops build up near Ukraine. A full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine could push troops right up to NATO’s U.S.-reinforced border.
Pentagon studying fallback supply lines to Ukraine in case of expanded Russian invasion. U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has pledged to continue sending American Javelin anti-tank weapons and other aid to Ukraine, even if Russia expands its invasion, but discussions about the logistics are still underway, according to a senior defense official.
Ukraine asks Turkey to shut Black Sea waterways to Russian ships. Ukraine has asked Turkey to close the Bosphorus and Dardanelles straits to Russian ships, Kyiv’s ambassador to Ankara has said, as Russia launched air and ground assaults on its neighbor.
GLOBAL IMPACT
BIDEN FAILURE – The line Biden won’t cross on Ukraine. The president says he won’t send American troops to battle Russian forces in Ukraine. That, some critics say, is a stance Russia will exploit and China will remember.
Putin’s Ukraine assault confounds Biden strategy, puts leadership to the test. There will be no winners in a Ukraine war. So here we go: Putin has rolled the dice. On February 21, he issued a decree recognizing the breakaway People’s Republics of Donetsk and Luhansk (DNR and LNR) in Eastern Ukraine.
China, ‘surprised’ by sudden Ukraine incursion, denies backing Russian attacks. China on Thursday denied backing Russia’s military assault in Ukraine as it treaded a cautious line in response to a conflict that many Chinese analysts just days before were predicting wouldn’t happen.
REFUGEES
82nd Airborne troops poised to help evacuees from Ukraine, but few Americans have crossed the border as Russian invasion begins. President Joe Biden and the State Department for weeks have been urging Americans in Ukraine to leave the country as Russian President Vladimir Putin stacked more than 150,000 troops along Ukraine’s borders with Belarus and Russia.
Central European countries prepare to receive Ukrainian refugees. Central European countries braced on Thursday to receive people fleeing Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, with Poland setting up reception points on its border and Hungary planning to send troops to create a corridor for refugees.

Biden is Ukraine’s worst enemy, as he is ours. He severely damaged our oil production, while continuing to buy over 1/2 million barrels of Russian oil, per day. Gee! Do you think all that money going to Russia may be helping its war machine? Turn on our oil and gas, which will help our energy, and get Europe off Russian oil and gas. Starve the Russian war machine and maybe Linsey Graham will get his wish: The Russian people will take out Putin.
