The House of Representatives on Wednesday approved a war powers resolution aimed at ending unauthorized U.S. military involvement in Iran, marking the most significant congressional challenge yet to President Donald Trump’s handling of the conflict.

The measure, sponsored by Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-N.Y.) invokes the 1973 War Powers Resolution and would require the administration to obtain explicit authorization from Congress before continuing hostilities against Iran, except in cases involving an imminent threat to the United States. The vote followed months of growing bipartisan concern over a conflict that began in.

FRIDAY PDB – Space is the ultimate battlespace. Whoever dominates this warfighting domain will dominate war on earth. The U.S. must be vigilant in developing military space capabilities.

Space is a national security priority. China and Russia are working hard to expand into the final frontier, leaving us vulnerable to numerous dangers.

AND THANKS IN PART TO TRUMP CREATING THE U.S. SPACE FORCE, IT IS RAPIDLY BUILDING ITS SPACE CAPABILITIES. Space Force crafting framework for commercial fleet access in a crisis. It expects to set an initial framework this summer for how it might take advantage of commercial space capabilities during wartime or crisis.

US Space Command seeks maneuverable, refuellable satellites by 2030. Its leaders say a future where satellites can be refueled and upgraded in orbit for sustained maneuverability could come as soon as 2030.

BUT – The Pentagon is increasingly relying on billionaires’ rockets. And it’s OK with that. Space Force leaders say carefully written contracts can prevent things like SpaceX’s about-face on Ukrainian satellite communications.

AND SOMETIMES THEY CRASH – SpaceX giant rocket explodes minutes after launch from Texas. The rocket exploded minutes after blasting off on its first test flight Thursday and crashed into the Gulf of Mexico.

FOR YOUR EYES ONLY – Here’s a roundup of other developing stories.

Not the President’s Daily Brief, but almost as good – PAUL’S DAILY BRIEFING – the PDB:

PENTAGON WOKE WATCH

Leftist climate lawsuits endanger military and US national security interests. For decades, the U.S. has stood as a champion for global order and democracy. Our military strength is inextricably linked to a stable energy supply that fuels our aircraft, tanks, and ships, as well as those of our allies, around the world.

NATIONAL SECURITY

Austin seeks to stem discord with allies over document leaks. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin sought Friday to tamp down any discord between the U.S. and its allies over the massive leak of classified documents, as he met with defense leaders from around the globe to coordinate additional military aid to Ukraine.

Leaks stir GOP outrage over US troops at embassy in Ukraine. Some Republican lawmakers are expressing outrage over a leaked document showing 14 American special forces are stationed in Ukraine, even though the Pentagon has said for months a small team of Marines are at the embassy.

CHINA THREAT

New legislation would push Pentagon cybersecurity cooperation with Taiwan. The bill comes on the same day the commander of US Indo-Pacific Command knocked down claims that the U.S. aiding Ukraine diminishes the Pentagon’s ability to support Taiwan.

RUSSIA THREAT – UKRAINE WAR

NATO could consider a nuclear deployment of its own to counter Russia. Vladimir Putin’s announced plan to put nuclear-capable arms in Belarus may pose risks to NATO’s nuclear posture. In the 1980s when Moscow fielded a new missile aimed at Europe and Japan, Ronald Reagan pushed NATO to respond by deploying its own missiles. It might consider this option again.

NATO chief: Ukraine’s ‘rightful place’ is in the alliance. Jens Stoltenberg defiantly declared Thursday that Ukraine’s “rightful place” is in the military alliance and pledged more support for the country on his first visit to Kyiv since Russia’s invasion just over a year ago.

Russia-Ukraine war: List of key events, day 422. A Russian fighter jet accidentally fired on the Russian city of Belgorod near the border with Ukraine, causing an explosion and damaging buildings.

Ukraine planned attacks on Russian forces in Syria, leaked document shows. Last winter, Ukraine’s military intelligence directorate proposed striking Russian troops and Wagner mercenaries in Syria, before President Volodymyr Zelensky directed a halt to the operations.

Kremlin tries to build antiwar coalition in Germany, documents show. Marrying Germany’s far right and far left is a Kremlin goal.

IRAN THREAT

FACT OR FICTION? – Iran says its navy forced US submarine to surface in Gulf waters. An Iranian navy commander says a US submarine was forced to surface as it entered Iranian waters in the Strait of Hormuz.

INTERNATIONAL SECURITY

US military prepares for possible Sudan embassy evacuation. The Pentagon is moving additional troops and equipment to Camp Lemmonier in Djibouti for the possible evacuation of U.S. Embassy personnel from Sudan.

Sudan’s power struggle has killed over 300. Here’s what to know. Sudan’s military is fighting the Rapid Support Forces, a paramilitary group known as RSF, in a conflict that has unleashed violence across the country.

RUSKIES SURE HATE OUR REAPER DRONES! – Russia ups its dangerous behavior in Syria with ‘unprofessional’ flying, missile shot at MQ-9. Russia overflying American positions with armed fighters and closing within a few hundred feet of U.S. jets.

Biden to meet Philippines’ Marcos at White House as China tensions grow. They will discuss economic cooperation, clean energy, and respect for human rights during their May 1 meeting. AND DEFENSE, FOR SURE.

US MILITARY

INDOPACOM’s chief seeks more electromagnetic resources for the Pacific. The U.S. Indo-Pacific commander considers domination of the electromagnetic spectrum, which militaries rely upon for weapons guidance, communications and deception, a top priority that requires additional resources.

Multinational training exercise at Fort Hood builds trust among allies. Thousands of American and foreign troops are testing their ability to work together and share information to combat a large enemy force.

UNACCEPTABLE – No sense of urgency: Mental health calls to VA go unanswered. Thousands of mental health calls to the Atlanta VA have gone unanswered over the past year, says whistleblower.
